Amanda Merk is the New Executive Director of NWPL, beginning July 10!
"I am thrilled and honored to be offered the opportunity to lead the NWPL into the future," said Merk in an interview with Amanda Dean of the Vermont Standard. "I am excited to serve the public of Woodstock and to continue to offer the high level of library service it has received for many years."

Water now available at NWPL!
Thanks to the generous donations of our patrons, the Norman Williams Public Library has installed a hot and cold water dispenser in the Room of Requirement, just to the left when you enter the library.

Masters of the Skies: Meet and Greet with Mike, the Barred Owl

5:30 pm
Gregory Wojtera of "Masters Of The Skies" will be present at the library on the front lawn (weather permitting) for an informal meet and greet. People will get a chance to ask questions regarding birds of prey, their ecology and natural history, as well as learn about their unique relationship with humans through the ancient sport of falconry. Mike the Barred Owl will be present, giving everyone a unique chance to approach a nocturnal predator during the daytime. This informal program is free for everyone.

Seed-Saving Garden Tour/Open House

As a follow up to her program on seed saving at the Norman Williams Public Library May 15th, Sylvia Davatz, owner of Solstice Seeds in Hartland, Vermont, will be opening her garden to the public on Saturday June 24
from 9 AM - 4 PM. The garden is devoted to seed saving, permaculture practices, food production, experimentation with borderline and staple crops, and the development of a collection of vegetable varieties adapted to the Upper Valley.
Garden walks will be self-guided, and Sylvia will be available for questions throughout the day. Click through for the address:

Jazz and the Art of Listening with Fred Haas

Does listening to jazz challenge you? Do you love jazz and long for the time when Jazz was America's pop music? Think you don't like jazz music? Fred Haas will share ways to actively listen and give participants the opportunity refine their listening skills and increase their jazz vocabulary.
Fred Haas founded Interplay Jazz & Arts a summer camp and jazz festival 24 years ago. This talk kicks off the Week of Jazz & Arts presented by Interplay in Woodstock June 24 - July 1.

Are you confused or cranky about what goes where, and how? Ham Gillett, Program/Outreach Coordinator for the Greater Upper Valley Solid Waste Management District, to the rescue! Ham will bring us up to date on the latest recycling and composting requirements for Vermont's Universal Recycling Law - Act 148 - how it presently effects residents and businesses, what the current requirements are, and how to recycle things like electronics, paint, batteries, fluorescent bulbs - all items that people are confused about or unaware of. Ham will also provide information on where to safely dispose of items that can't go in your trash. No question will go unanswered! This event is co-sponsored by Norman Williams Public Library, Sustainable Woodstock and GUVSWD.

Come hear Philadelphia author Janet Benton, whose debut novel Lilli de Jong has been called a "monumental accomplishment" (Kirkus Reviews) and "a stunning ode to motherhood" (author Sarah McCoy). Released May 16 by Nan A. Talese/Doubleday, the novel tells the story of an unwed Quaker mother in 1883 who decides to keep her baby. It is in the form of the young mother's diary. Reviewers have compared the work to that of Geraldine Brooks. The author will read from the novel, discuss the history and motivations behind it, answer questions, and sign books. Need a book? Need to thin out your shelves?
The front foyer of the library has a wide variety of books - all for quite reasonable prices! Because
Norman Williams Library welcomes contributions of used books from our community members, and because our local folks are voracious readers, we have quite a selection of books for sale! All proceeds from book sales go toward the library's operating budget. Stop by and browse our current selection. Or drop off books you don't need anymore, so you can make room for new ones.

Qigong with
Gerry Sandweiss
In Qigong, your awareness is awakened in the first lesson and benefits accrue immediately. When practiced, Qigong helps to reawaken our sense of joy. No equipment needed except one's body.
Gerry Sandweiss has been a student and practitioner Qigong for fifteen years. Classes will be held Saturday mornings at 8:30. Classes held on the NWPL mezzanine - enter through back door of library. Please wear loose clothing and bring a mat and notebook. These classes are suitable for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Knitters are invited to meet on the Mezzanine of NWPL every Thursday afternoon. All knitters are welcome - from beginners to experts. We will knit together, learn together and provide each other assistance when needed. Plan to bring your current project, knitting questions or problems, or a pattern to share.

This session features short stories, interspersed with songs and finger plays and runs for about 20 minutes. It is geared for children ages birth to three years.

This session features three thematically-related stories and a tie-in craft or activity. This session runs for about 45 minutes. Geared for children ages 3-5 years.
