Parshat Toldot
In conjunction with parshat Toldot, this week's parsha, our class examined a "mystery sensory box." The students took turns placing their hand through a hole into the box and tried to figure out what they were holding by using their sense of touch. We discussed that Yitzchak, who was blind, could also only use his sense of touch to figure out which one of his sons came to get the brachah.
There were several different objects of different sizes and textures inside the box. The mystery of not knowing what was inside made this activity so much fun for the children in Gan Bet! This box was such a hit that we'll have to play with it again another time!
Gan Students Learn About Wassily Kandinsky
Gan Hey students learned all about the art and life of the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky.
We learned that Kandinsky's art was created through emotions he felt while listening to music.
We were inspired by his amazing works of art and created our very own oil pastel and water color pictures of concentric circles while listening to calming music.

Second Graders Learn About Elections
Elections in our 2nd grade classrooms were a sight to behold! After listening to two fictional tales of presidential elections and the responsibilities that the job entails, they were excited to cast their votes. They voted for the character they thought would be the best for the office. Each class had different results!
How Do You Become a Great Jewish Leader?
What does it take to become a great leader? In Sefer Yehoshua, Yehoshua Bin Nun must fill Moshe Rabbeinu's giant shoes as he steps into the leadership role of B'nei Yisrael, and class 4C, who has recently begun learning Sefer Yehoshua, got to figure out how Yehoshua was to become the Jews' next great leader. Using support from the Navi text, the students presented their findings. Some of the students' answers included: being "strong and courageous," always studying the Torah, and making sure to learn from the actions of great leaders in the past. As a bonus, some students also connected their answers to current "great leaders," including Yavneh's Rabbi Penn and Morah Mir.

Rav Gav Visits Middle School
On Monday, the Yavneh Academy Middle School had the honor to host Rabbi Gavriel Friedman, or 'Rav Gav,' who shared an inspirational message. Rav Gav discussed the importance of making a connection with Hashem, using his sense of humor to draw in the students. Rav Gav shared stories to support his point, showing that people don't only have to speak to Hashem during davening, but they can have Hashem in their everyday lives all the time. Rav Gav believes that making davening a "chore" by only speaking to Hashem at certain times during the day can reflect a negative relationship with Hashem. He stressed the point that making a good connection with Hashem early in life is imperative because that will impact the relationships of the students with Hashem for the rest of their lives. The students internalized Rav Gav's message and have reinvigorated tefillot. Yavneh Academy thanks Rabbi Gavriel for this incredible, impactful lecture, and we hope to see him at our Yeshiva again. We will remember- "Who loves you more than anyone else in the world? Hashem!"
Sixth Grade Annual Chai Lifeline Shabbaton
For Parshat Chayei Sarah, our six grade girls joined many Bergen County 6th graders for the annual Chai Lifeline Shabbaton. Friday night our students enjoyed their host's hospitality; Shabbat day they were together at Keter Torah.
After hearing an inspiring speech by one of the Chai LIfeline members, all the young ladies engaged in different activities to get to know one another. The Yavneh girls presented a skit and a song/dance based on the the parsha. After the lunch activity, the girls went back to their hosts' homes.
On Motzaei Shabbat, everyone joined together at Yeshivat Ha'atid for a lively Melaveh Malka. There was food, slime making and lots of dancing with the famous Shimi Adar. Numerous parents emailed the school expressing how their daughters were inspired by this fun-filled experience. Our thanks to Mrs. Faigy Ort for planning this unique Shabbaton, Mrs. Keren Fisher for helping with the housing arrangements, and Mrs. Jordana Baruchov for preparing the girls for their presentation and spending a beautiful Shabbat in Teaneck with them.
