Our annual gathering of grantmakers committed to LGBTQ issues will take place March 20th-22nd, 2019 in Tucson, Arizona! We are already planning another great gathering and hope you will consider joining us!
Friday October 5th, 2018 (Phoenix, AZ)
The Arizona Community Foundation, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, Funders for LGBTQ Issues, and Philanthropy Southwest will host a special briefing in Phoenix, Arizona. The event, titled "LGBTQ Philanthropy in the Southwest: Grantmaking Trends, Gaps, and Opportunities," will bring together a diverse group of funders for an important conversation about the regional and national landscape of LGBTQ funding. Join Funders for LGBTQ Issues and partners for two special release events for our forthcoming report, "The Philanthropic Closet: LGBTQ People in Philanthropy". Join us at either event to learn about the findings of the initial Diversity Among Philanthropic Professionals (DAPP) Survey and hear responses to the report from leaders in the field. Research, Resources, and Updates
  • In recognition of Bisexual Awareness Week a new Center for American Progress analysis shows that bisexual people face more struggles in health care, economic security, and other areas than gay, lesbian or straight people.
  • The 2018 LGBT Community Center Survey Report from MAP and CenterLink shows the critical role LGBT community centers play in the lives of LGBT people and their families, serving more than 40,000 people each week and providing targeted referrals to nearly 5,500 people.
  • A survey conducted by the Center for American Progress found that LGBTQ people and their families are more likely to participate in public assistance programs than non-LGBTQ people and their families.
  • A new report from Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP) titled Dissonance and Disconnects, examines the thoughts and feelings of early- and mid- career practitioners on philanthropy and their futures in it
  • OutRight Action International's report, The Global State of LGBTIQ Organizing: The Right to Register, seeks to understand how barriers to legal registration for LGBTIQ organizations impacts the LGBTQ movement globally.
  • The Ford and W.K. Kellogg foundations recently teamed up with Borealis Philanthropy to launch the Racial Equity in Philanthropy Fund, already awarding $14 million to advance racial equity and promote diversity within the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors.
  • Comic Relief, a significant funder of HIV issues in the UK, and more recently in the US, announced HIV would no long be a funding priority, reported Funders Concerned About AIDS (FCAA.)
Requests for Proposals
  • Career Pathways is a year-long leadership preparation program from the Council on Foundations that advances excellence and inclusion in talent acquisition, management, and retention strategies. The program prepares participants to successfully compete for leadership positions by expanding their capacity to become more effective philanthropic leaders. Application deadline is October 15, 2018.
  • Native Americans in Philanthropy is now accepting applications for the 2018 grant period for the #GenIndigenous Response Fund. The purpose of the grant is to provide responsive funding to support youth organizing and activism that requires immediate response across communities. All Native-led non-profit organizations that support Native youth organizing are encouraged to apply. The grant application deadline is October 1, 2018.
  • The Immigration Litigation Fund (ILF) is a national funder collaborative whose goal is to ensure that the nation's immigration enforcement system is fair, humane, and prioritizes the civil and human rights of those vulnerable to deportation. ILF believes that litigation is an essential tool in achieving public policy and social change on immigration issues. The Fund's grantmaking prioritizes litigation efforts that are connected to, and coordinated with, immigrant communities and organizations. The ILF will be accepting applications July 9 - December 1, 2018. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis meaning applications can be submitted any time prior to December 1, 2018.
  • Neighborhood Funders Group (NFG) and The Aspen Institute Forum for Community Solutions launch a new leadership fellowship for CEOs of progressive philanthropic institutions. This Fellowship is best suited for philanthropic institutions that are already supporting racial equity and powerbuilding and who are looking to go deeper by building a strong peer group and aligning more towards equity and impact.
  • The Akonadi Foundation will award grants of up to $5,000 to community organizations who seek to advance safety and healing in communities most harmed by inequity and injustice in Oakland. Applications will be accepted through November 15.
