For the Greater good:
Rebranding the Portland Community Health Center
In just seven years since its founding, the Portland Community Health Center had grown to four locations serving more than 6,000 Portland residents for primary care and other health services. With the addition of a fifth location in South Portland this year, the practice realized that its name and brand identity could use an overhaul, and turned to Burgess Advertising & Marketing for help.
We developed the new identity shown above, featuring a new name that was shorter, yet more encompassing of the new geography; a tag line; and a simpler, more engaging icon. We quickly incorporated this into several print pieces (see below) and a new website at GreaterPortlandHealth.org . The initial response to our work has been universally positive, from a strong turnout at a launch of the South Portland office, to favorable comments from patients, staff and Board members.

TIP: One key message we have advanced is that while GPH makes health care available to everyone, regardless of insurance, it is by no means only for low-income patients. So if you're looking for exceptional primary health care with convenient locations and hours, we invite you to check out their highly expert and personable doctors, nurses, and other providers!

Socially Adept:
Burgess Wins Communicator Award for MaineHousing Social Media Content
In May, we won a Silver Communicator Award in the category of Content Marketing: Overall Social Presence for our campaign promoting MaineHousing's First Home Loans. Even better, our campaign has helped MaineHousing lend hundreds of first-time Maine homebuyers a hand.

MaineHousing, a quasi-state agency that helps Mainers rent, buy and heat their homes, contracted Burgess in March of 2015 to help market 750 new loans for first-time homebuyers as part of the First Home Loan program. To meet this ambitious goal--a significant increase over recent years--Burgess developed and managed a comprehensive all-digital plan, including a new First Home Loan logo and web landing page, a digital ad campaign, and a robust social media plan.
MaineHousing targeted renters with moderate incomes, ages 25-44, throughout Maine. Special efforts were also made to reach veterans and active-duty military, who qualify for the loans despite previous home ownership; and "returning" homebuyers, who are eligible after three years not owning a home. After meeting their 2015 goal, MaineHousing is well on the way to meeting a 33% higher goal for 2016.

Looking for your own first home? Or has it been three years since you last owned? Click here to check out MaineHousing's great rates and Advantage payment of $3,500 towards down payment and closing costs!

Dear Clients & Friends,

Happy summer! We hope you're finding time to enjoy this glorious weather we're having so far.

As we present work we're proud of in these e-newsletters, I'd like to make sure we give credit to the people who make it all possible: our clients.

Their vision and support is vital to turning our good ideas into productive ads, brochures, videos, social media campaigns and commercials.

In the case of Greater Portland Health, we thank John Hennessey, their advisor, and especially Leslie Clark, Chief Executive Officer, who responded quickly and cogently even while dealing with a major public policy issue. (As you may have heard, the City of Portland decided to transition certain services to GPH to take advantage of its more comprehensive capabilities and Federal government funding.)

For MaineHousing, we thank Communications Director, Deb Turcotte, who juggles numerous programs and dozens of requests from her colleagues, and Denise Lord,  Communications and Planning Manager, for their good guidance, questions and openness to new ideas.

Likewise, as we ramp up a major new project with Educate Maine, we appreciate the spirit of cooperation among Ed Cervone, Executive Director, and his team.

Have a safe and happy Fourth!

Regards,
Meredith Strang Burgess,
President & CEO

There's an  App Challenge
for that!
The Burgess PR team helped get out the good news about the 2016 winners of the Tyler Technologies Maine App Challenge . The Challenge, which was d eveloped in partnership with our client Educate Maine's Project>Login, encourages high school students to develop a mobile application that addresses a need in their community. At a ceremony preceding the Portland Sea Dogs game on June 12 , the seven savvy winners, from across Maine, were presented with a total of $10,000 in scholarships. Two of them even got to throw out a "first pitch!"
Tri  Quartet!
FROM LEFT:  Keva Crockett (who did the swim portion only last year), Jen Porto, who has previously completed a Half-Ironman Triathlon, and Dana Rutherford (in her very first tri of any kind).
Four women from Burgess will participate in all three legs of the ninth annual Tri for a Cure on July 17th in South Portland: the three above, plus Meredith Strang Burgess, who has "run" every year as the last finisher.

We invite you to support any of our four team members with a donation, just click on the links below:
Burgess Advertising has been a sponsor since the inception of this event to benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation, which supports cancer research, patient education and support, with all funds raised staying in Maine--100%.

Thank you.
