THE LIFE OF JOSEPH – LESSON 9
FRUITFULNESS BEFORE FAMINE

Joseph is now the chief ruler over all of Egypt which included modern day Ethiopia. He set forth to implement the plan God had given him. He began to travel throughout the country to establish storehouses for the grain harvests. Twenty percent of everything produced was taken and stored. The harvests were abundant, and the storage facilities filled up during the first seven years.

His personal life also had change. Pharaoh arranged a marriage to Asenath, the daughter of the Priest of On. The priests (pagans) were a very privileged class even above the lords and nobles of the country, so this was considered to be a very high honor.

Asenath bore him a son named Manasseh which means “forgetting” because Joseph said in Genesis 41:51, “For God…hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.” This statement indicates that he has put his brother’s treachery behind him (forgiveness).

A second son was named Ephraim meaning “fruitful.” He said in vs. 52, “For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.”

The first seven years then ended. The seven years of famine begins. The famine was not just in Egypt, but all through the entire area of Canaan and surrounding countries.

Egyptians came to Pharaoh crying out for bread (food). Pharaoh referred them to Joseph and told them to do whatever he told them to do. (Remember the “whatever” because that becomes very important later.) Also, people from “all countries” (vs. 57) came to Egypt to buy food as it was the only country that had any.

Next, we shall see how the plight of this extremely severe famine impacts Jacob’s family and the entire future of Israel as God raises up a nation whose ultimate purpose was to introduce God to the whole world through a people group he would call “his own."

CROP FAILURE

In Mark chapter 4 we learn the parable of the sower. In verse 13 it says, “And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? And how then will ye know all parables?” Jesus is telling us that this parable will help us understand ALL parables, so it is important that we understand it.

If you have gone to church and heard an excellent sermon on Sunday, and I were to ask you a week later what the message was about, chances are you would not remember. In the parable of the sower, we learn some very important facts. First of all, the sower is the one that preaches the Word of God and “plants or sows” that seed it int a person’s life.

We learn the ground that the seed is sown in will determine the “seed’s” fruitfulness.

The first place it was sown was the wayside. The second place was on stony ground. The third place was among the thorns. The fourth place was on good ground.

In each case the seed (word) sown started to grow, but only in one of the four instances did it produce. Then, in the one that produced, it came up thirtyfold, sixtyfold, and a hundredfold. That isn’t percentage, it means thirty times, sixty times and a hundred times what was sown. In the good ground there was only one-third of the ground that brought forth one hundredfold. So, out of the seed sown, only 8.33% produced a hundredfold increase. In my mind that is quite sad.

What causes the “crop failure?” The first ground was on the wayside. This would be the casual hearer that is not interested in hearing the Word of God preached to them. Satan steals the seed (word) immediately and there is no growth at all.

The second is stony ground. These people hear the preached word with gladness but have no roots in themselves. They do not have the word of God in them deep enough to take root. This is caused by the cares of the world such as affliction, and persecution. This causes them to become offended, which stifles any growth. I believe bitterness is one of the chief causes of this. Once a person is offended and they do not repent, bitterness sets in and their hearts become like stone where they cannot receive. Until that stony heart is removed through repentance, they can never receive what God wants for them.

The third ground is among thorns. These people hear the preached word but are deceived by riches and lustful things of the world. The word they received gets choked out by these “weeds” until there is no fruit. They often do not receive because they do not want to pay the price to be disciples of Jesus. We must not let things become our goal in life. It will rob us of fruitfulness. They aren’t willing to seek first the kingdom of God. If they did, then God would bless them far more with the right kinds of things.

The fourth ground is good ground, but even then, this ground only have one third produce a hundredfold. I believe this ground has to be tended to more than anything so that we have the greatest harvest possible. Those that produce a hundredfold will find that it isn’t money that motivates them. It isn’t success that motivates them. Their motivation is to only do what God has called them to do no matter what the cost may be.  This alone gives them satisfaction because they were God pleasers and not man pleasers.

We each are given a choice as to what to do with the seed sown.  We are told to break up the “fallow ground” so that seed can grow.   This means it starts with us. We must remove the thorns, thistles, rocks, stones, and be determined to hear the word of God and then act on it.

There will be a day that each of us will stand before God. We will be asked what we did with what He gave us. There will be no excuses on that day. God is a “know it all” and knows all that we have done and have not done. I pray that you make the right choices and let His word grow in you and bring forth a tremendous harvest so one day you will hear, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into your rest.”

God is touching heart conditions today. If you need a miraculous healing claim it now in the name of Jesus! He is also healing someone that has been on dialysis. Receive now in the name of Jesus.

There is no distance with a word of knowledge. If you believe and receive God will touch you now.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

Elijah was alone, impoverished and camping out by a brook. Sure he could’ve done like most of us have done at some point in time. He could’ve felt sorry for himself...And asked God, why God why? After all he was running from crazy Jezzy you know. Actually about now is when most folks would’ve started questioning God and their calling; But not ole Brother Elijah for instead he rejoiced that God had watched over him and kept him alive thus far. Remember who you are in Jesus Christ and the nature and the severity of your crisis or your time of famine... Are definitely not one in the same. So don’t ever allow your problems or your crisis to define who you are or what you’re called to do in life; But just know that it’s time for you to...Relax, Refresh, Refocus, Regroup and Refuel; But there’s no time for Refusing...Refraining or Regretting. For now’s the time to keep moving onwards, upwards and trusting God through whatever comes your way. Just know in your heart that He did not bring you this far to leave you now.

For Thus Saith the High and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; "I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones". -Isaiah 57:15
The word 'inhabits" in Hebrew is 'shakan', which means to lodge, stay or dwell; to camp out in a tent. YHVH-God sets up His tent in eternity; for He owns eternity. When we set up a tent here on earth, we do it all at once; in that moment of time and space. But God's tent spans across eternity. In Him, all eternity, past, present and future, are as one. All of our time in this in between thing called life, is covered by the presence of Almighty God.

The Lord continues in this scripture by saying that He dwells in the high and holy place; with those who have a contrite (which means repentant or chastened) and humble spirit. So the One who inhabits eternity is saying that those who are humble and repentant will also dwell with Him, and He with them...in eternity.
Psalm 91:1 tells us that "he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty". Both Isaiah 57:15 and Psalm 91:1 are interconnected. In order to dwell with and in the presence of the Almighty, you must come up to the high and holy place. And His place, His tent, covers all things; but you must come up. You cannot dwell in the low and dark places where the dirt and creatures lie; you must come up! You must come up to where the eagles soar and nest. And how do you get there? With a repentant heart and a humbled spirit. There, you will find Him; there is where you will find rest...His Shalom, and He said, there, is where He will revive you.

Have you allowed the sins of your past to hold you captive? Have you allowed your circumstances to define your present and your future? Go to the high and holy place; and instead of allowing life, people and the enemy to define you, let God Almighty define you; let Him set you free, for He came to set the captive free. YHVH-God is greater than your past, present and future because He is a part of your past, present and future. So do not fear what your physical eyes see, or cannot see; trust the one who gave you sight in the first place, and know that He is already there. He has already set up a tent over your eternity...so abide in Him.
