Genesis 9:13-16 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
When I read that scripture, I just want to stop and think...what was the earth like back then? After that massive flood, most of the animals and people were deceased, except for Noah, his family and the animals in the ark.
How do you think you'd have felt if you'd been a passenger on Noah's ark? How would you have felt once the ark had landed on dry ground?
If I'd been in that ark, I probably would've been a bit fearful and anxious at the same time. Yeah, I'd want to be on land, I'd have been anxiously awaiting the end of the trip. However, I believe I'd have been a bit fearful, too. Once we'd landed, it'd hit me that we'd be starting over with a new kind of earth. But, seeing God's rainbow would have given me some hope. I'd have felt blessed to see something so wondrous and beautiful decorating the light blue sky. Just seeing that rainbow slicing through the clouds would make me feel hopeful about the future.
I've always been amazed by rainbows. Whenever I see one, I just have to stop and stare. I've been known to pull my car over on the side of the road just to get a look at one. Since I don't see them often, it's a treat, and a blessing, when I can enjoy seeing a real rainbow in the sky.
These rainbow pics were taken with my phone a couple of years ago. Aren't rainbows simply amazing?
