The 39th Annual Charity Open Boy Scout Golf Tournament

Presented by Steel Dynamics

The 39th Annual Charity Open Boy Scout Golf Tournament presented by Steel Dynamics is scheduled for June 8th, 2018 at one Autumn Ridge Club in Fort Wayne. Registration and lunch will begin at 11:30 am, shotgun start at 12:30 pm and awards presentation and dinner to follow, around 5:30 pm. We are expecting around 140 players with the Florida Scramble format. It is strongly encouraged to share this with your business associates and friends and ask them to consider participating in the event. When making a commitment ask, always seek a sponsorship at the Eagle Level or foursome, they may choose to consider another sponsorship level that is higher or lower, but setting a higher bar will produce higher results. Please let Chuck Walker know if you need any assistance in making a request.

Participation in this year's tournament is an investment in preparing youth to overcome the challenges of tomorrow and to be successful in their personal and professional life. Scouting is an adventure, full of exciting discoveries that build more capable young people who will lead our community through tested leadership, achievement, character, service and stewardship.  The Anthony Wayne Area Council serves over 5,300 youth across our 11 county service area: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells, and Whitley Counties.

Lemonade Day

Lemonade Day is a fun, experiential program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their very own business - a lemonade stand. Youth have the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship by setting up their business during the community-wide Lemonade Day on May 19th.

Arrowhead Experience
The Arrowhead Experience is a new Program targeting provisional Scouts or Venturers at least 14 years of age and older who are looking for a unique program opportunities in a 2.5 day Schedule. Scouts may choose ONE of the following program blocks. This experience will be offered July 15-17, 2018. The cost is $120.
SCUBA Adventure Week
The Anthony Wayne Area Council has teamed up with We Teach SCUBA and Two Brothers SCUBA shop to bring SCUBA Merit Badge at CCLT! This program is only offered during July 15-21 and scouts must register separately for this program through the council website, registration ends May 7. The cost is $350.

  • Wabash Valley Roundtable will be on Thursday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. (1300 N. Main Street, Bluffton)

  • WV District Commissioner and Committee Meeting is Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church (1300 N. Main Street, Bluffton) ALL Unit, ADC and District Commissioners are STRONGLY encouraged to attend this meeting, Jim Molebash and Council Commissioner, Larry Corbin will be joining us to discuss preparation for young ladies joining pack this fall!

  • Pokagon Spring Camporee is May 4-6, 2018. The cost is $12 per person. Camporee is at Camp Chief Little Turtle.Check in Friday at 5:00 pm. Units need to bring these items to Spring Camporee: Spar Poles, “or Hiking Sticks”, 10' x 8' tarp, Fire Starting Materials, Compass, and Catapult and safety gear (AKA: throw-able container) for a passenger on the catapult.   • The Lincolnway Webelo Overnighter from May 19-20, 2018 has been cancelled due to lack of participation.

  • 2018 Spring Cub-O-Rama: Zombie Outbreak is May 4th and 5th, 2018. The cost is $10 for the event. It will be at Camp Alexander Mack (1113 E Camp Mack Road Milford, IN 46542). Early registration has closed, late registrants and walk-ins are welcome, but should plan to bring their own lunch.Walk in registration on site after 5 pm Friday or from 8:00 am through 8:40 am Saturday.

  • The Lincolnway Spring Camporee will be May 4-6, 2018 at Camp Alexander Mack (1113 E Camp Mack Rd, Milford, IN 46542)  The cost is $10.00 pre-registered and $15 at the event. The cost Includes Camping, Pocket Patch and Awards.

  • The new and improved Youth Protection Training will be presented on May 9, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Pierceton United Methodist Church. (Same location as Lincolnway Roundtable) This new training is required for every registered Scouting volunteer. Even if you have taken Youth Protection Training during the past 2 years, you will need to update your YPT by attending this course before October 1, 2018. ( The course is also available on line at My.Scouting.org ) Take it online, or take it May 9 at Pierceton UMC…But you Must take it before October 1!

  • Lincolnway Summer Day Camp is June 20, 21, 22. Day camp is at Camp Rising Arrow on county road 400 S (3/10's mile west of the Packerton Road). The Cost per camper in the same family: one = $40 , two = $70, three = $100.

Miami
  • Please join us at the May Roundtable, to be held at the Council Service Center on May 2. We will be awarding our leaders for their service. There will be a meal provided by our council!! Starting time to eat will be 6:30 pm. Awards and Roundtable to follow. 

  • Stormin’ the Castle: Miami Spring Cuboree is May 4-5, 2018. The cost is $15 per person. Cuboree is at the Anthony Wayne Scout Reservation. Walk-ins are accepted, but please contact Susan with an approximate headcount to ensure adequate supplies.


  • Boy Scouts, Hit the Target by attending the Shooting Sports themed Miami Camporee. The Camporee is May 4-6, 2018. The Camporee is at the Anthony Wayne Scout Reservation. The cost is $15 per person.

  • Miami Day Camp is June 11th – 15th, Monday – Friday from 9:00AM – 4:00PM. It will be at Stillwater Retreat, 10001 Yoder Rd. The price is $99 due by May 1st or $125 after. Also there is an optional $12 overnight camp on Tuesday for Bears and Wednesday for Webelos. The cost includes a T-shirt, lunch daily for all youth including Boy Scout helpers, and a ridiculous amount of fun! There are so many fun activities such as: swimming, boating, fishing, BB guns, archery, sling shots, hiking, nature, camp skills, games, 9 square in the air, giant hamster balls, outdoor cooking, scout skills, flag retirement and closing campfire.

Thunderbird
  • The Thunderbird Spring Camporee is May 4 – 6, 2018 at Chain O’Lakes State Park (2355 E 75 S Albion, IN 46701) The cost is $15 per person. Click the link below to register!

  • The Thunderbird Cubmobile is May 12, 2018, registration opens at 8:30 am. The race at St. Vincent’s Catholic School (1720 E. Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825). The cost is $8 per racer by May 5, 2018 and $10 per racer after May 5, 2018.

  • Thunderbird District Day Camp is Monday, June 4 – Thursday, June 7 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Day Camp is at the Allen County Fairgrounds. The cost is $80 Early Registration and $100 for Registration After May 1. Lunch and Snacks Provided. This medieval themed Cub Scout adventure will provide a unique opportunity to enjoy fun in the outdoors, make new friends, learn new skills, and play games! The fun will include BB guns, archery, slingshots, woodworking, crafts, field sports, a nature station, survival skills, STEAM, and an exciting mystery station with an exciting medieval basis! While the focus is on fun, there will be a large number of advancement requirements covered for each Cub Scout in attendance! Click the link below to register!

CPR and Wilderness First Aid Training
Training Dates are:

Train for Emergencies in Wilderness and Remote Environments. Our new 16-hour Wilderness and Remote First Aid course gives you the skills and confidence you need to respond to an emergency when help may be delayed. The course meets BSA requirements for wilderness first aid training among all crews participating in national and council high adventure camps.
 
*Must be at least 14 years of age and possess current certification in Adult CPR/AED.*

National Youth Leadership Training 2018  

July 15-20 at Camp Chief Little Turtle
  NYLT is an exciting, action packed program that provides youth members of the BSA with leadership skills and experience they can use both in and out of Scouting. Through activities, presentations, challenges, and discussions, NYLT participants will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give them the skills and confidence to lead well. The course uses the patrol method and models a month in the life of a troop. Boy Scouts must be at least 13 years old and at least 1st Class Rank. Venturers and Sea Scouts must be at least 14 years old. (no rank requirement)
 
All participants must complete Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops or Crews. Register early- course size is limited to 48 participants!

Trainer’s EDGE
Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Trainer’s EDGE is for all Scout Leaders in all programs and Youth (minimum 1st Class rank), especially District and Council trainers. NOTE: National Youth Leader Training and Wood Badge staff are required to attend Trainer’s EDGE at least every 3 years.

Building on skills you already possess, Trainer’s EDGE focuses on the participant as it will “train the trainer” on behaviors and resources utilized by successful trainers of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Trainer’s EDGE helps develop the platform skills of a trainer while offering fun, hands-on experience in methods and media. Mirroring the practice that is offered through other training course’s staff developments, you will have the opportunity to give several presentations throughout the day.

Powderhorn

August 2 - 4, 2018;
Thursday 8:30AM - Saturday 9PM

The cost is $75 Non-Refundable Deposit, $185 per person until June 1, 2018, $230 per person beginning June 2, 2018. This is a resource course designed to help the unit provide an interesting and exciting program for the older youth and adult leaders. This course will give the unit the tools and resources to safely conduct outdoor/high adventure type activities. It is for any older youth or adult interested in experiencing a unit level, high adventure program!

News from National
2019 World Jamboree

The theme of the 2019 World Scout Jamboree is “Unlock a New World.”
Registration for the 2019 World Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve is live, details can be found at the link below. This means prospective youth participants, adult volunteers and staffers – known in World Scout Jamboree parlance as the International Service Team (IST) – can register to join the adventure.

The quadrennial event, held at the BSA’s high-adventure base in West Virginia and co-hosted with Scouts Canada and Asociación de Scouts de México, will be the first World Scout Jamboree in the United States in more than half a century.

This historic event will be held July 22 to Aug. 2, 2019.
Youth attendance is limited to BSA registered boys and girls age 14 to 17 on the first day of the Jamboree.
(Birthday between July 22, 2001, and July 21, 2005).
Venturing Fest 2018  

VenturingFest 2018, the second national gathering of Venturers at the Summit Bechtel Reserve is from July 1 to July 6.
VenturingFest 2018 is a special Scouting event at SBR that’s open to registered Venturers, Scouts and adult leaders across the U.S. This six-day high-adventure festival invites participants to explore what SBR has to offer. There are many fun and exciting activities available such as rock climbing, skateboarding, BMX biking, water sports, shooting sports, zip lines, challenge courses, and so much more!
