This Fall, the headlines and our social media feeds are full of heavy topics - fear, hatred, hope, tragedy. A teaching season that has asked more of us as parents, grandparents and caregivers than perhaps we thought we could manage. It seems tougher than ever at times.
Yet, one of the biggest emotional gifts of parenting is the empathy for the many difficult choices our own parents made with us. Let’s be honest, raising children was never easy. Oy vey! Filled with thousands of choices, one just hopes to make as many ‘right’ choices as possible. I know one thing is for sure. Choosing Yavneh was one the best decisions my husband Kirk and I have made as parents.

Yavneh will spend next week celebrating the joy of reading through fun events and activities. We will have guest readers in English and Hebrew. Sign up to be guest reader through your room parents or teacher.

Build a LEGO® Menorah
Wed., Nov. 28th 4:30pm-6:30pm, JCC main lobby. Yavneh is partnering with the JCC, PJ Library, and Play-Well TEKnologies to build the largest LEGO Menorah in California this year. Join us for this fun building event in the JCC’s main lobby. Free. For more information, contact

Kindergarten Readiness Workshop with Parent Educator, Linda Levine
Tue. Nov. 13th, 6:00pm-7:00pm
Learn what to expect from kindergarten programs and what makes a child ready for the experience. This event is in partnership with: The APJCC Preschool, Shir Hadash ECC, Congregation Sinai Nursery School, and Temple Emanu-El Preschool. The Kindergarten Readiness Workshop will be followed by Yavneh's Kindergarten Information Night.

Book Fair
The Book Fair is the YPA's largest fundraiser and is run during reading week to enhance students' love of reading. Families are encouraged to come to the fair with (or without) children to build excitement about reading and support the YPA. Students will create a wish list that will be available at the book fair.

Family Day of Code, Tinkering & Play 5.0
|
|
What an amazing Family Day of Code, Tinkering, and Play! Over 300 parents and children attended the event. There were coding sessions for all ages, an escape room, tinkering stations, rocket launching, and a family challenge to build a city of cards. Thank you to Morah Vanina and all of the parent and faculty volunteers.

Kitah Gan Geffen raised over $200 at their plant sale on Friday that they donated to World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and symbolically adopted 4 arctic/antarctic animals.

Kitah Alef created tornadoes in STEAM class.

Kitah Dalet wrote short stories and poems for a world wide writing contest in Hebrew sponsored by the Hebrew Writers Association. The topic of the contest is "choosing the light." Good luck to our writers!

Kitah Vav is studying properties and states of matter by examining how similar looking liquids can have different properties.

Kitah Gan Rimon is investigating the world map and made "passports" with covers, names, birthdates, and places of birth.

Silicon Valley Jewish Film Festival
Now-Nov. 11th the SVJFF will present many more chances to see features and documentary films at the AMC Saratoga 14 movie theater. The 27th annual film festival ends November 11 with a Special Event at OFJCC in Palo Alto.

APJCC Preschool Book Drive

Each year JFS makes Hanukkah brighter for those in need. Look for dreidel boards in the lobby. Pull a dreidel tag, purchase the item, return the gift and tag to the JFS office. There is also a
