Ski/Snowboard Club

The Cooper Ski Club is forming for this school year! We encourage students to participate with the ski club group from Cooper HS after school hours, but you are permitted to go on your own. The benefit of purchasing Perfect North Ski passes and selecting the School Ski Club on Perfect North's website is that you can receive 30% off your pass through November 14! There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 23rd after school for students.

All passes are sold online on Perfect North Website. Once on their webpage, scroll to the bottom blue area to club log-in. The club password is "downhill"

For additional information and to join the Cooper ski club, students need to fill out a permission form with teacher, Mr. Jacob Booher in room 811.

Graduation with Honors & CAMS Applications

Class of 2019 (current seniors) that qualify for the following prestigious honors and recognition at our Commencement Ceremony must apply in the guidance office by the first Friday in November (November 2).

Graduation with Honors

Cum Laude

Achieve a weighted GPA of 3.8 and have taken at least 2 AP and/or Dual Enrollment courses

Magna Cum Laude

Achieve a weighted GPA of 4.15 and have taken at least 5 AP and/or Dual Enrollment courses

Summa Cum Laude

Achieve a weighted GPA of 4.5 and have taken at least 8 AP and/or Dual Enrollment courses

A completed application is required if you want to be recognized at graduation!

CAMS PROGRAM - Cooper Academy of Mathematics and Science

Any senior who has successfully completed the CAMS program curriculum will need to fill out an application in the guidance office in order to be recognized for this achievement at our Senior Honors Night in the spring. Students should submit this application by the first Friday in November (November 2).

**This special recognition during senior honors night is by application only by the student and/or parent.

Items Needed

Our Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies has a PBIS store component where students can exchange the points they earn for items. We are in need of various items that teenagers would have an interest in purchasing; for example, gift cards, gas cards, pop tarts, and many other item possibilities. If you or a community business would like to donate any items, please sign up below!

Report Cards Go Home

With our 1st quarter ending on Tuesday, October 16, 1st quarter report cards will be coming home with all students on Thursday, October 25th. Be sure to ask your student to see their report card and the progress they are making.

Both in-school tutoring and after school tutoring is available for any student in math, English, science or social studies. In-school tutoring is available from 10:30-11:00 each day.

After school tutoring is available each day after school from 2:30-3:30 p.m. See the after school tutoring on the Quick Links on the left side of this newsletter.

ACT Registration

We strongly encourage all current juniors to take the ACT by December of each year. By taking the ACT in December of the junior year, it gives time to work on the progress suggestions that come with the ACT results to increase the students knowledge and performance to the next level.

You can register now through November 2nd for the December 8th ACT test. All national test dates for the ACT are given right here at Cooper HS.

Students that has free/reduced lunch status can take the ACT for free twice, in addition to the state provided ACT test for all juniors in March. Students with free/reduced lunch status should stop by the guidance office to pick up a form to receive two free ACT tests.

Picture I.D. Needed

When you are coming into our main office to pick up your student, it is essential that you have a photo ID.

For safety and security reasons, a photo ID must be presented and verified prior to a student leaving early with a parent/guardian.

Community Service

As part of our graduation requirement, each student needs to have completed 20 hours of community service hours prior to graduating. Volunteering is a great way to identify interests and develop skills.

It is recommended that students perform 5 hours of community service each school year instead of accumulating the hours within one school year. Deadline for seniors to submit hours is February 15th 2019. Students are required to fill out a community service hours form and return the completed form to the Library Media Center.

Students transferring to Cooper High School on or before September 30th of that school year, will be required to obtain five (5) hours of community service for that year. Students transferring to Cooper High School after September 30th will be exempt for that school year.

Examples of valid community service hours include services that benefit several people in an organized fashion. This includes, but is not limited to: school sponsored activities, Master Provisions, United Ministries, Brighton Center, River Sweep, Special Olympics, Welcome House, Mary Rose Mission, BCPL, YMCA, nursing homes, etc.

Community Services hours that are not organized activities and do not serve several people do not count towards graduation requirements. For example: mowing your neighbor's lawn, babysitting, providing a service that is not organized in nature.

PTSO Member?

Our Parent/Teacher/Student Organization (PTSO) is a one of three supportive groups that works closely with our school and provides direct support to the classroom. PTSO membership is FREE but we can't assume everyone is a member. You would need to indicate your interest by filling out the information form. Donations are also welcome.

Please consider joining our PTSO this school year. Your child and all students benefit with additional classroom resources.
