Temporary Relocation of the Children's Room

The Children's Room is getting new carpet and a fresh coat of paint!

This means:
  • We'll be temporarily "camping out" in the Assembly Room, but don't worry! We're still having storytime and other programs and we'll be here for you to request and check out books.
  • The Children's Room will be closed Friday, November 9, in order to move the contents of the room and "set up camp" in the Assembly Room.
  • We will have limited access to our collections starting November 10, but we can help you plan ahead if you have projects.
  • You can help us by checking out a whole lot of books at once! We'll extend the due date and have fine flexibility for Belmont Children's items, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy your check outs.
  • Operating hours may change. Check our web page or call (617) 489-2000 for more information.

EVENTS & PROGRAMS
Ted Reinstein
Thursday, November 8th
7pm, Library Assembly Room
Part of the Friends Author Series, sponsored by the Friends of the Belmont Public Library & the Belmont Historical Society

Join Chronicle's Ted Reinstein as he takes us through the wooden doors of New England's general stores and back in time, into a Norman Rockwell painting and into the heart of America.
New England's General Stores offers a nostalgic picture of this colonial staple and, fortunately, steadfast institution of small towns from Connecticut to Maine. This is where children of each generation take their first allowance to buy their very own penny candy. Locals have swapped stories at these counters from gossip to whispers of revolution. In tough times, the general store treated customers like family, extending credit when no one else would. Stubborn as New Englanders themselves, the general store has refused to become a mere sentimental relic of an earlier age.

Ted Reinstein has been a reporter for "Chronicle," WCVB-TV/Boston's award-winning-and America's longest-running, locally-produced-nightly news magazine since 1997. In addition, he is a regular contributor for the station's political round table show and writes a weekly opinion column. He lives just west of Boston with his wife and two daughters. He is also the author of New England Notebook (2013) and Wicked Pissed (2016).
