oct18smallworks nov18smallworks Small Works Show in December

We will have our first ever Small Works Show the week of December 10 through 14 at the Government Center in Placerville.  Diana Coco-Russel will be our judge.  The show will have three categories.  Awards will include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each of the categories as well as Best in Show and People's Choice.  The categories are:

series of 9 - 9 pieces, each 8"x8" (framed or unframed, but in either case, 8"x8" finished outside dimension), all by the same artist and in the same medium, and following a theme of the artist's choice.  For sale as a set, individually, or nfs, at the artist's discretion.  Any medium and any subject matter (except nudes).

series of 3 - 3 pieces, all the same size (neither height nor width my exceed 12"), by the same artist, in the same medium, and following a theme of the artist's choice.  Size refers to the outside finished dimension whether the pieces are framed or not.  For sale as a set, individually, or nfs, at the artist's discretion.  Any medium and any subject matter (except nudes).

individual piece - framed or unframed,  image size (not outside framed dimension if framed) height plus width of the image not to exceed 25".  Any medium, any subject (except nudes), for sale or nfs.

For the series of 9 and series of 3 categories, PAA will supply a backer board on which to hang the series.  To enter in either of the series categories, contact Kaaren Poole at kspoole@hughes.net by November 30 to reserve your space.  (No reservations are necessary for individual pieces.)

Each artist may enter up to a total of 4 items.  (Each series of 9 or series of 3 counts as an individual item.)  Entry fees are $15 for a series of 9, $10 for a series of 3, and $8 for individual pieces.

Our schedule will be a bit different than with our other member shows - due to Diana's schedule  she will not be able to judge the show until Thursday morning.  However, we will do the intake and hanging Monday morning as usual, and the reception Friday at 4pm, again as usual.

I think this is an exciting opportunity for PAA and I'm really looking forward to it.  For more information, as well as the entry form, visit PAA's website  here.

Have fun with this one!

From the Editor
editornoteCritiques are my favorite type of program, so I'm really looking forward to our November meeting and hearing from Margaret Welty.  I hope you're planning to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.  Not only can you receive invaluable input on your work, but your participating contributes to the program for everyone else to enjoy.

Speaking of opportunities, another one is coming up in December - our first ever small works show.  Please consider entering and helping making this show a success.  Series are so fun to do, but if you find that a bit daunting, enter individual pieces.  I'm hoping that the smaller pieces with, presumably, lower price points, as well the proximity to the holidays will increase our sales.  I can't wait to see all the beautiful artwork that you will produce.  And, by the way, to all of you artists who enjoy working big, how about a change of pace?  It would be really interesting to see how you work small...

October Meeting Minutes
November Program
programIt's critique time! Margaret Welty will be our November demonstrator and we invite you all to bring up to three pieces that you would like professional and positive feedback on. The fee is $5 per artist for 1-3 pieces and we ask that you bring your work about 15 minutes prior to start of meeting, 1:15pm. We hope you will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!
