Cumberland Council elects new Deputy Mayor
Clr Glenn Elmore has been elected as Cumberland Council's Deputy Mayor following an Extraordinary Council meeting on Wednesday 26 September. Clr Elmore will serve as Deputy Mayor for a term of one year following the completion of Clr Eddy Sarkis' term.
Deputy Mayor Elmore said he was honoured to be elected Cumberland's Deputy Mayor and was thankful to his fellow Councillor's and the community for their support.
"I am passionate about Cumberland, a place where both my Grandparents lived, where my mother and father grew up, and where I have lived my whole life," Deputy Mayor Elmore said.

Open Days offer Garden Parties and Multicultural Fun
The Auburn Centre for Community and Berala Community Centre are rolling out the welcome mat these school holidays, with two family friendly but distinctly different Open Days. Auburn Centre for Community will kick things off with a garden party on Friday 5 October, 11am - 3pm. Berala Community Centre will follow up with a colourful social gathering on Thursday 11 October, 11am - 3pm.

October is Small Business Month
Providing practical information, ideas and networking opportunities to help businesses start up and grow, Small Business Month celebrations will be held across Cumberland in October, supported by the NSW Department of Industry. In Cumberland, there are three free events to choose from.

Workshop promotes grassroots approach to domestic violence
Cumberland Council is organising a workshop called Recognising and Responding Appropriately to Domestic Violence in CALD communities, to empower community leaders to play an active role in responding to domestic and family violence within their communities.
This workshop is part of a broader Council program which includes workshops called Cultural Conversations, to support grassroots initiatives to stop domestic violence.

Cumberland Local Heritage Award winners announced
The 2018 Cumberland Local Heritage Award winners have been announced at a ceremony at the Holroyd Centre, Merrylands.
Mayor Greg Cummings said valuing our
heritage is important to help us understand our story as Cumberland, our
identity, our people and our history.

Keepin'-A-Hive program
Council is inviting members of the community to participate in its Keepin'-A-Hive program. The program is aimed at increasing biodiversity throughout Cumberland, by encouraging residents to host a hive in their backyard and planting native flowering plants for bees to forage on.

Snakes spotted in Cumberland and surrounds
Snake sightings have been reported across Cumberland, prompting Council to remind residents of what they can do to minimise the risk of reptiles breeding in their backyards and what to do should they spot a snake.

Annual garden Competition in Full Bloom
Council is inviting the youngest budding green thumbs through to the most experienced garden gurus to enter Cumberland's third Annual Garden Competition. Entries are open until 2 November 2018 and there are six categories to choose from: Open Garden; Native Garden; Commercial / Industrial; Small Garden; Schools and Community Grounds; and Senior Citizens' Garden.
