GWRPC
Secures Public Infrastructure Grant Funding for
Three Communities

GWRPC has secured grant funding for three communities in the region through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity-Community Development Block Grant Program. Big Mound Township will receive $111,018 on behalf of Boyleston Water District to provide water to seven homes in Big Mound Township that currently do not have a public water source. The City of Carmi will receive $90,387 to provide sewer access to homes along Marguerite Street in Carmi. The City of Bridgeport will receive $500,000 to rehabilitate the sewer treatment plant. The CDBG grant is an annual competitive grant through DCEO. GWRPC submitted and will administer each of these grants.
Crawford County Forest Preserve
Since the leaves are changing, we would like to highlight one of our previous grants, the Crawford County Forest Preserve. GWRPC submitted and received a grant from Illinois Department of Natural Resources OSLAD program to develop the donated land into a public forest preserve.

The Crawford County Forest Preserve is approximately 70.33 acres. At the forest preserve there is now a gravel parking lot with asphalt ADA accessible area, picnic shelter, walking path, fishing dock, and ADA accessible restrooms. There is also a pond to provide public waters for residents to fish. Several acres have been left untouched to preserve the scenic and natural value of the land.

Throughout the project, several organizations in the community came together to be involved in the planning stage and volunteered for site beautification. Below are pictures from the Crawford County Forest Preserve taken 10/25/18.
