STUDENT AFFAIRS NEWS
Freshman students received permission slips this week for the Freshman retreat on Dec 4th-6th. Each freshman will attend the retreat on only one of the days with their religion class. Our Freshman retreat will focus on the history of CCHS and the charism of Mercy, instilled by the Sisters of Mercy who founded the school. We will travel back to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden, the location of the original CCHS building and engage in works of service for Cathedral Kitchen and Joseph's House during the day. Seniors in our Christian ministry class will also be facilitating sessions throughout the day. We ask for your prayers for this retreat. Permission slips and a $2 busing fee will be due back to Religion class by November 9th. We also will be asking for donation of supplies for some of our service projects via the following SignUp Genius link:
We greatly appreciate your support.
The freshman meeting on Monday was an overview of the Freshman Retreat. The presentation can be found on the Freshman Transition page of the CCHS website:
Senior Graduation News: Diploma Forms
Seniors received important graduation paperwork in homeroom for their legal name as it should appear on their diploma. These forms are due Nov 2nd to their homeroom teacher and must have a parent/guardian signature verifying the information. Thank you for your assistance.
Attendance- Excessive Absence Policy
Because regular attendance is so important, students whose unexcused absences are excessive will receive failing grades in each of his/her courses for the current semester. A student who is absent ten (10) days in one semester without providing acceptable verification of those days will receive a grade of 65 for each course. Each additional absence will result in a further deduction of 5 points for the semester. A student who is absent ten (10) days in one semester and has provided acceptable verification of those days will be permitted to make up missed time and missed work. The student and parent/guardian will meet with the Vice Principal of Academic Affairs to review missed work, and establish a schedule for making up missed time after school or on designated days in the school calendar. Two hours will be required for each absence beyond day 10. Examples of acceptable verification of absence are doctor's note for illness, court documents for legal appointments, funeral card or obituary for bereavement days, official college notes for college visits, and school-sanctioned activities. Students may forfeit the privilege of participation in school-sanctioned activities that would result in missed classes due to excessive absence (excused or unexcused). (Student Handbook Page 24-25)
Just as a reminder, whether the absence is excused or not, excessive absence is defined as 10 days in a semester. The policy for excused absence is not meant to be punitive but rather supportive to a student academically. We encourage you to reach out to the Vice Principal of Academic Affairs, Ms. Wilkinson if your child needs assistance making up missed coursework due to missing school.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT NEWS
Juniors and seniors taking Advanced Placement courses met with Mrs. Crisci and Ms. Wilkinson on October 17 and October 18 to review policies regarding AP courses. First, students were reminded that taking the College Board's AP Exam in May is a course requirement. Students who do not take the AP exam will have their transcripts adjusted to reflect that they completed an honors level course. The fee for the AP exams is due on November 16, 2018. Students received an AP order form at their meeting or in homeroom. The earlier collection allows us to order the correct exams in a timely fashion, and prepares us for changes in ordering procedures that will be implemented by the College Board in 2019. Second, we explained that CCHS has students take a practice AP exam we refer to as the "Mock AP Exam." These are scheduled outside of school hours by each AP teacher and take place during April and May.
Finally, the AP test schedule is determined by the College Board and is as follows:
