Two major trails are planned in the southside of Santa Fe: the River Trail from Caja del Oro Grant Road to San Felipe and the Acequia Trail from South Meadows Road to San Felipe. To study the community needs and potential impact of these trails, the Santa Fe MPO and Santa Fe Public Schools received planning assistance from the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (NPS RTCA) to write a Community Health Profile.

Key findings include:

The Santa Fe MPO, City of Santa Fe, and Santa Fe County plan to use the Community Health Profile to help leverage funding to complete these trails, effectively creating a nearly continuous “Southside Greenway Loop”.

The Acequia Trail already has funding for a design and regional partners are discussing funding options for the River Trail. In the meantime, the NPS RTCA will continue to assist the MPO with bilingual public visioning and engagement for this sector and detailed GIS mapping.

Safe routes are essential for everyone! Is there a safe route for you to walk or bike to a nearby park or school? That's what we'll be asking with two efforts underway in Santa Fe: Safe Routes to Parks (SRTP) and Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS).

The Railyard Park Conservancy is leading the SRTP effort focusing on park access in the southside. To get involved, contact Shannon Palermo.

The Santa Fe Conservation Trust was awarded a contract with the City to create a SRTS program. To get involved, contact Tim Rogers.

Car crashes take a toll on the economy (at least) and human life (at most). The MPO uses crash data to inform current and future projects and to share with local stakeholders. All intersection crashes within the MPO planning area are available for you to explore on our online interactive crash map.

The MPO has an on-going storytelling project called Santa Fe Street Stories. These stories are now on display at Alto Park and SWAN Park!
