Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience
Month
. The United States has 16 safety & security-related critical infrastructure sectors. These sectors include the power we use at home, the farms that grow our food, the stores we shop in, and the hospitals in our communities. We all play a part to keep these sectors safe in our communities. This November, get involved by joining the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Hometown Security initiative.

Portland Government Provides Emergency Preparedness to Staff
The importance of preparing ourselves for disasters is universal. Emergencies can happen anywhere - at home or at work – and everyone must take action and prepare in case something unexpected happens. One month left to apply for RDPO funding!
If you have a great project concept but need funding for it, the RDPO projects pipeline is worth exploring! September 18, 2018, marked the kickoff date for the 2019 RDPO project application process, more commonly known as the “Projects Pipeline
.” This process is the vehicle used by the RDPO to develop, prioritize, and approve projects in preparatio
n for upcoming funding opportunities. Applications should be submitted
no later than December 10

Training Opportunities
- November 8-19, Portland, OR: TIP Volunteer Training Academy. The Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) is hosting a 2-week training for volunteers to serve on their team in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Clark Counties. See the flyer for more info.
- November 8-19, Portland, OR: TIP TEEN Volunteer Training Academy. The Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) is hosting a training for Teen volunteers to serve in schools and in the community. See the flyer for more info.
- November 13-15, Portland, OR: ICS-300 Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents. ICS-300 provides training and resources for personnel who require advanced knowledge and application of the ICS. This course expands upon information covered in the ICS-100 and ICS-200 courses. - November 14, Portland, OR: ATC-20 Procedures for Post-Earthquake Safety Evaluations of Buildings - FULL DAY. Recommended if you have never taken ATC-20 or took it more than 3 years ago. Register here (11/14 class).
- November 15, Portland, OR: ATC-20 Procedures for Post-Earthquake Safety Evaluations of Buildings - REFRESHER HALF DAY. Recommended if you have already taken the course and are certified with Oregon Building Codes Division but want to refresh on the basics. Register here (11/15 class).
- November 17-18, Portland, OR: HAZMAT Incident Command training. Free! To register, click here.
- November 28, Lincoln County: AWR-319 Leveraging Tools for Conducting Damage Assessment. See the flyer for more info. Register here.
- November 29, Portland, OR: CalOES Safety Assessment Program Coordinator and Assistant Evaluator Training. Recommended if you are not eligible to be a certified post-earthquake building inspector but may be an assistant or coordinator to them. Register here.
- December 3-7, Lynnwood, WA: National Emergency Management Advanced Academy (NEMAA). The NEMAA Program, offered by FEMA Region X, consists of four (4), five (5) day courses held in four (4) separate months. The other dates are January 14-18, March 25-29, May 20-24. - December 6-7, Eugene, OR: Rail Safety and Hazmat Emergency Response Training. FREE! To register and for more info: Dec. 6 full daytime session - click here. Dec. 6 condensed evening session - click here. Dec. 7 full daytime session - click here.
- December 10-14, Salem, OR: L0110 National Emergency Management Basic Academy Train-the-Trainer. The Basic Academy Train-the-Trainer consists of two days of discussions about course objectives, how to set up and facilitate the class, time management, and other general topics. The last three days consist of student teach backs that summarize portions of the Basic Academy course subject matter and describe activities and exercises with time for critique and questions. - January 15-16, Lincoln County: MGT-905 ICS 400 Advanced Incident Command System for Command And General Staff – Complex Incidents. See the flyer for more info. Register here.
