LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT |

Fall brings a change for many of us...kids back to school; gearing up for the holiday season and the weather has a brisk refreshing feel to it. At the Chamber it is our busiest quarter of the year with 2 of our major fundraising events-The PJ Dragon Boat Race and the Taste@PortJefferson. Both went very well, with large participation and good results for the Chamber. A new undertaking was also achieved, the partnering with the Greater Port Jefferson Northern Brookhaven Arts Council in a Fall Artwork. 30 artists and 20 businesses contributed in creating a self-guided walking art tour throughout the Village for 2 weeks in October.
Getting ready for the holiday season the Chamber for the first time will be sponsoring a 'Cookieland' hosted by Chamber Partner- People's United Bank in Port Jefferson during the 24th Annual Charles Dickens Festival. Children and adults can buy a cookie kit which contains 3 large sugar cookies, frosting and decorations.
Our Holiday Party this year will be at the PJ Village Center in their Harbor Cove Room on the third floor, 7-9pm, December 17th. Assisting with our 'sweet & savory' tastings are our Chamber members: C'est Cheese, PJ Lobster House, Kilwins, and Torte Jeff Pie Co.! There will be special entertainment and also the viewing enjoyment of the Festival of Trees. This is a time where we can relax and enjoy each other's comradery and give thanks for our good prosperity.
Consider helping others who may be less fortunate than we are and be generous in spirit. On behalf of the Chamber I am wishing
you all the gifts of love, friendship and good health during this
holiday season.
Happy Holiday Season and the Best of New Years,
Mary Joy Pipe PJ CC President

Joy and Barbara were invited to meet the new Interim President of SBU-Michael Alan Bernstein along with other community leaders. The informal event provided an opportunity for him to chat with each guest and learn more about the relationship between the campus and the community. In attendance at the breakfast, held on August 19, 2019 at the Charles B. Wang Center, were representatives from the area's civic associations, chambers of commerce, public libraries, fire departments, education and historical organizations. The breakfast was hosted by Judy Greiman, Chief Deputy to the President and Senior Vice President for Government and Community Relations. A similar event for elected officials was planned for September.
Through the encouragement of the Chamber, the Port Jefferson Rotary and Lions Clubs collaborated together to consolidate their individual signage to one. The single post with an attractive finial on top, now hosts both civic groups emblem logos! Thank you to both groups in working together in creating this new sign that is mindful of the limited ground space by the Chamber and considerate of having too much signage in the Village.
In the beginning of September a group of veteran kayakers crossed the LI Sound. Their group is 22PTSD, had 9 double kayaks. According to a Department of Veterans Affairs study, each day over 20 veterans take their own lives. It takes a community to heal a warrior™. Their MISSION OBJECTIVE IS to eliminate the symptoms of trauma by addressing the underlying physiological and psychological imbalances that war can create. By the end of this twelve month program veterans feel calmer in their body and mind.
Chamber Partner the Explorium, with the assistance of PJ Village and Decision for Women & Commerce built a 'sensory garden' in front of their museum. Many thanks for the support and help from the PJ Village's Gardener Caren Markson-Carafis! Indigenous perennial plants were used with a combination of sedums and some annuals. In addition the Explorium through a NYS grant has built 2 rain gardens in the Village. One in front of the PJ Village Center and the other in front of Village Hall. Thank you for helping to protect the quality of our ground water!
The Chamber supported Mather Hospital's 'Paint Port Pink' with their new pink flamingo family
living in the entrance planter to the Chamber office, happy flamingos!
Celebrating
The Village Cup's 10thAnnual Regatta Saturday, Sept. 7th with their parade of decorated boats with 'dress flags'! A gorgeous day for a great cause, supporting the
Lustgarten Foundation and research on pancreatic cancer.

WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON!!!

We formally welcomed the new restaurant- Due Baci, the old Graceful Rose with a ribbon cutting. Present was the entire Aubrey family, VIPS, Chamber Partners and friends! Opened July 31st Due Baci is a family run Southern Italian Restaurant which offers a fine dining experience, serving only the
freshest of ingredients. O
verlooking Port Jefferson Harbor,
Due Baci is open for lunch and dinner and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Full bar, gracious dining room and handicapped accessible.
In August the Chamber played host to our annual summer wine and cheese new member soirée at the Chamber's office. Well attended with social networking and new members getting to know the Chamber better.
September brought back our 6th Annual Dragon Boat Race Festival! With 28 teams this year the day of racing was fast and furious. Food trucks helped us out this year in providing a variety of ethnic food. Pan-Asian entertainment and the weather held for the entire day!
We rolled into October with our 12th Annual Taste@Port Jefferson event. Over 33 purveyors participated this year. Highlights were our very own local favorite band- Denice Given and a mobile Cuban cigar and bourbon trailer!
NEW this October the Chamber in partnership with the Greater Port Jefferson Northern Brookhaven Arts Council sponsored a 'Fall Art Walk'. With 30 pieces of art, placed in 20 Chamber Partner businesses, 'sightseers' were able to walk and visit all the art. The show was up for 2 weeks and created new foot-traffic throughout the Village. Thank you Amy Tuttle from the GPJAC for all her help and assistance and additional thanks to our 2 new artist members, Jennifer Hannaford and Anthony Freda!
