Annual Banned Books Essay
Contest Winners Announced
Congratulations are in order for the winners of the Banned Books Essay Contest hosted by the Fullerton College Library in October. First place with a $200 prize went to Cadence Lusinsky for her essay on "The Power of Women and the Power of Banned Books" which explored the topic of gender inequality through Aristophanes' ancient Greek comedy
Lysistatra. Second place was awarded to Eduardo Munoz who wrote on controversial lessons that can be learned from reading Mark Twain's
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and lastly, Paulo Flores-Arvizu took home third place for his essay titled "Mightier than the Pen" who also wrote about intellectual consequences of banning books using
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Help Needed for Student Support Resources
The Student Support Services Division is creating a resource guide for students who need connection to programs and services on and off campus that are designed to address a variety of needs such as food insecurity, housing, and mental health support. Adopt an Angel Holiday Program Starts 11/2
The planning has begun for the annual Fullerton College EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs & FYSI "Adopt An Angel" holiday event. Beginning Nov. 5 the CARE/FYSI Office in Room 2002 will have adoption forms and ornaments with children to adopt this holiday season. The event supports parents and children in the program. In an Orange Empire Conference match, the Hornets hosted Santiago Canyon College on Friday beating the Hawks 3-0: 25-11, 26-24, 25-16. Up Next: Fullerton (12-7 overall, 7-6 OEC) will host Cypress College on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
Women's Soccer
The Hornets tied 0-0 with Saddleback College at home Friday. They are still hanging on to second place in the Orange Empire Conference. Up Next: FC (12-3-3 overall, 9-2-3 OEC) hits the road Tuesday, Nov. 6 Santiago Canyon College at 3 p.m.
Men's Soccer
The first place Hornets had a bye last Friday, but are battling two strong teams at home this week in Santiago Canyon (Tuesday) and Golden West (Friday). These are both crucial games for Fullerton in order for the team to clinch their first conference title since 1992. Come on out and cheer on your Hornets! Both games are at 3 p.m.
Women's Cross Country
Two FC runners qualified for the State Championships in Raquel Aldama and Rebeca Perez. As a team, the Hornets just missed the mark of the top 14 teams to advance for state placing in 17th overall (486 points out of 26 full teams). Up Next: The State Cross Country Championships are on Nov.17 at Woodward Park, Fresno at 10 a.m.
Men's Cross Country
There were 192 runners standing on the line ready to compete last Friday at the Southern California Regionals as two Hornets qualified for the State Championships. As a team, Fullerton finished in 25th place out of 28 teams, however times dropped individually and gaping was improved among these men. Up Next: The State Cross Country Championships are on Nov. 17 at Woodward Park, Fresno at 11 a.m.

Luz: Exploring Light
Runs Through Nov. 28
Luz examines the transformative power of light through the lenses of mythology, technology, society, and science, and features the work of Alison Kudlow, Amor Muñoz, and Christine Nguyen, among others.
Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Campus Theatre
Instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles perform with special guests the Jazz Cadré with Jamie Shew - vocalist, Bruce Babad - saxophones & flute, Mike Scott - Guitar, Jeremy Siskind - Piano, Lyman Medeiros - bass, Matt Johnson, drums. Members of the Jazz Cadré all serve on the music faculty of Fullerton College.
Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m., Campus Theatre
The Fullerton College Concert Choir is a large auditioned ensemble with both a regional and national reputation. The choir usually consists of about 85 members who perform classical repertoire that spans across all musical styles and time periods.
