2018 FEMA Ready Business - QuakeSmart Workshop Schedule
FEMA and FLASH will present free
Ready Business - QuakeSmart Workshops
in the following locations during 2018. Representatives from businesses, cities, corporations, counties, organizations, private sector partners, tribal governments, and others looking to prepare for earthquakes
are all invited.
- October 11, 2018 - Benton, AR
- October 18, 2018 - Albuquerque, NM

Hosting Opportunity - 2019
QuakeSmart
Would you like to have a QuakeSmart event in your community? Now is the time to request one!
FLASH is currently seeking host communities for a limited number of QuakeSmart events to be presented during 2019.
The one-day
Ready Business QuakeSmart Program
allows users to take action to protect employees, protect customers, and help ensure business continuity as well.
Once completed the Ready Business Program will provide attendees with the tools to plan, take action, and become a Ready Business by addressing preparedness and mitigation for your Staff, Space, Systems, Structure, and Service.
Some of the requirements for hosting an event include the availability of a venue capable of holding up to 100 attendees. Additionally, a volunteer planning committee composed of state and local officials is required to be able to help FLASH staff secure speakers for the day and coordinate the event.

Annual Great Shakeout Drills
Set for October 18
Following FEMA's "National Preparedness Month" in September, individuals and communities worldwide will participate in Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills happening across the nation and worldwide. More than 50 million people around the globe are expected to participate.
Held annually on the third Thursday of October, this year's International ShakeOut Day is set for Thursday, October 18, 2018. Participants practice how to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" and other aspects of their emergency plans.

WSSPC Seeking Executive Director
After nearly 20 years as Executive Director, Patti Sutch has announced her retirement at the end of 2018. The Western States Seismic Policy Council (WSSPC) is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Executive Director. The deadline for applying is October 15, 2018, and interviews will be conducted in Sacramento November 15-16, 2018.
The Executive Director is the key management leader of WSSPC. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include grant writing, conference planning, and public outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.
WSSPC is a federally funded nonprofit consortium comprising 13 states, 3 U.S. territories 1 Canadian territory and 1 Canadian province. It seeks to promote regional cooperation and interaction between members and the public in the formation of, and advocacy for, seismic policy.
