CHAMBER ENDORSES OPLINGER, BASUA AND LOPEZ IN COUNCIL RACES

The Oxnard Chamber Political Action Committee has endorsed three candidates for city council in the new district elections.

Of the four candidates seeking election to Oxnard city council in District 1, Ken Oplinger's qualifications and positions on issues certainly rose to the top of the list.

The Oxnard Chamber Board of Directors has taken positions on six of the propositions that will appear on the November 6 ballot. The Board limits its review of the ballot measures that affect businesses in the state of California. Here are the positions for this year:

No matter how many employees you have in California, your business is required by law to post a current California and Federal Employment Poster centrally in every place of business. Severe fines and penalties will be assessed if a business doesn’t display a current poster.

5 THINGS WE DID FOR YOU IN THE PAST WEEK
1.Organized a meeting with Oxnard businesses and city management to address proposed changes to wastewater discharge limits. The new limits would adversely affect operations of some businesses.

2.The Oxnard Leadership Steering Committee met to recap the 2018 program and made plans for the 2019 cohort.

3.The Chamber Board met and certified the election of nominated Directors.

4.The Board held its annual planning session where the focus was on business attraction and retention in Oxnard.

5.The Chamber Ambassadors met to work on their 2019 goals and to get ready for Wednesday’s New Member Mingle.

IRS: 401(k) and IRA Contribution Limits Increase  
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced cost of living adjustments affecting dollar limitations for pension plans and other retirement-related items for tax year 2019.

The IRS issued technical guidance detailing these items in  Notice 2018-83.

Highlights of Changes for 2019

The contribution limit for employees who participate in 401(k), 403(b), most 457 plans, and the federal government’s Thrift Savings Plan is increased from $18,500 to $19,000.
