Yoga for Bone Health and Osteoporosis with Carol Mermey and Deborah Boggs  
   
Osteoporosis is a silent disease that weakens bones, often resulting in fractures. Recent studies indicate that yoga, practiced the right way, can build bone mass and help prevent fractures without undesir -
able side effects. You'll learn a safe and enjoyable practice to im prove bone and muscle strength, posture, and balance.   

 
   
During t his workshop you will:  
* Discover safe ways to build and strengthen your bones, no matter 
your level of experience or physical limitations.
*  Practice the 12-pose yoga sequence developed by Dr.
Lauren Fishman
and Ellen Saltonstall to combat
osteoporosis 
    
 You will learn:  
*  Information about bone health  
and osteopenia/osteoporosis, including causes, 
consequences,  
and treatment  
* Do's and Don'ts: Movements that are safe and movements to avoid in your  yoga practice and daily life

Deborah Boggs (e-RYT 500,RN) 
and Carol M ermey (RYT 500, MPH) ar e both certified in teaching Loure   n Fishman 's Metho d of  Yoga for Osteoporosis. They   have each been teaching yoga sin
ce the early 2000s.  
Carol is a certified Yoga fo r Healthy Aging teacher and completed the Kripalu/Duke Integrative Yoga for Seniors Training Program. Deborah completed the yoga ther apy program through Body Balance Yoga and is the owner of Blueberry Gardens Wellness Center. Both teach seniors regularly in their classes.

Dance of the Phoenix Qi Gong 
This is an eight week training during which you will learn two forms of gentle movement Qi Gong, one called Back Care and the second Dance of the Phoenix. It is a particularly power-   ful form to practice daily for one's health and wellness. Results from clinical research showed improvement in fibromyalgia patients so it's beneficial for joint pain. Gentle and easy to do, anyone can attend and be successful at Qi Gong. It can be done seated or s tanding. Open to all ages. C om e embrace your wellness and rise with the pho enix!
