Members, out of an abundance of caution WVBankers has implemented reduced staffing in the office for at least the rest of March. We will have someone scheduled each day to manage office duties with the rest of staff working remotely. Please email us directly or call the office (304) 343-8838 should you need anything.

WVBankers is committed to sharing vital information and updates with the banking community and we have created an Emergency Preparedness resource page with various links that will be updated continually. Compliance Alliance has offered their Pandemic Planning Policy free for member use, it is available on our website or to download here.
WVBANKERS/ABA'S WASHINGTON SUMMIT - CANCELED

ABA has been closely monitoring developments related to the 2019 novel coronavirus. Given the health concerns raised by the virus, and after hearing feedback from members, ABA has decided to cancel all scheduled March events.

This includes the 2020 ABA Washington Summit, Emerging Leaders Forum, Mutual Community Bank Forum and Women's Leadership Forum that were scheduled to take place March 23-25 in the nation's capital.

Please note:
  • If you made hotel reservations using ABA's SPARGO housing system, those reservations will be canceled automatically. If you made other arrangements for accommodations, please contact your hotel directly to cancel.
  • If you were scheduled to attend a council or committee meeting in conjunction with the Summit, you will receive an additional communication from your staff liaison with more information about alternative arrangements, such as a conference call.
  • For those with planned meetings with lawmakers, please consult with your state association about rescheduling those meetings either virtually, such as via conference call, or in a lawmaker's district office. Just as Congress is proceeding with its business, the banking industry must continue advocating for critical policy solutions.
While ABA regrets not being able to deliver the promised programming and networking opportunities in person, the health and well-being of  conference attendees and speakers remains our highest priority. Also please note that at this time, ABA has canceled only March events; and will continue to evaluate future programming as the situation evolves.

If you have any questions, please contact ABA at 1-800-BANKERS or email ABA Member Services

Tennessee Tornado Relief Efforts:

In the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes that swept through Tennessee on March 3rd, the main line of storms traveled 172 miles from Camden to Cookeville, destroying homes and businesses. The death toll currently stands at 24 individuals, and while one life lost is too many, it truly is amazing there wasn't more when you see the destruction. Many of you have asked how you can help, and if you are able and interested, we would encourage you to join the TBA in supporting the Cookeville/Putnam County Tornado Relief Fund. This area saw the most destruction and loss of lives, and destroyed the homes of several bank employees.

The fund is being overseen by the Bank of Putnam County, one of TBA's great community banks. More information can be found at https://putnamcountytn.gov/relief/.

To succeed in today's banking world, bank officers need the wisdom and expertise that comes from perception and insight, an astute ability to discover, discern and decide. It's that kind of knowledge that the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University has been offering to experienced bank officers for over 70 years.

Completion of the program has become a requisite to professional advancement in many banks. Executives at multi-billion dollar financial institutions as well as community banks find that the School's curriculum addresses their educational needs. WVBankers has three scholarships available; one is reserved for a minority or female student and one is reserved for a bank regulator. If you are interested in learning more about applying, please contact Sally Cline, WVBankers President & CEO.

The 2020 session runs May 25 - June 5, 2020. Join thousands of other executives who have attended GSBLSU and have left the school with a new kind of knowledge - one that separates them apart.
