Dear Shaker Resident,

Welcome to a special post-election edition of The Mayor's Report . Below is a short video from me followed by a transcript of the message.

I am honored and privileged to have been elected yesterday to continue serving as the Mayor of Shaker Heights. I am deeply grateful for the trust and faith that the Shaker Heights community has placed in me.

I also would like to compliment Council Member Julianna Johnston Senturia for her service to the City as a member of Council and as a candidate for Mayor. As she and I discussed yesterday, we both achieved our goal of setting an example of how to have a competitive and spirited campaign while maintaining a civil and respectful discourse. One thing that we most certainly share is a deep passion and love for our community. Shaker Heights is indeed fortunate to have highly qualified people, like Julianna, willing to serve in public office and I look forward to continuing to work with her.

Throughout the campaign, I have had the opportunity to get to know many of you. Whether at block parties, gatherings in resident’s homes, or in your neighborhood going door-to-door, I appreciated hearing your ideas and insights regarding the things you love about Shaker, as well as those areas where we need to make improvements. I am committed to continuing those conversations. Shaker’s greatest strength is its people who represent a diversity of perspectives and opinions, are willing to constructively and proactively engage in civic life, and who bring the kind of passion and commitment that make Shaker Heights so unique. I welcome your involvement and look forward to working with you.

Over the past months, I have described my vision and the priority areas that I believe are essential to ensuring that the City is well-positioned for a prosperous future for all residents. These priorities remain: expanding our economic development efforts, a focus on sound fiscal stewardship, pursuing opportunities to attract and retain residents and businesses and promoting transparency and inclusiveness. You will hear more about our progress toward these goals in future Mayor’s Reports.

For now, let me close by again saying thank you for the honor of serving as your Mayor.

Respectfully,
Mayor Weiss Signature
