Volunteer positions are open at the Downeaster Theatre. They are looking for enthusiastic theater lovers to assist in a variety of positions, including 
construction, painting, box office, concessions, ushers, fliering, audition assistants and merchandise sales. Contact the executive director with interest.

The Michigan Institute of Contemporary Art (MICA) has multiple openings for volunteer docents at the gallery located  in Old Town. Shifts are available Tuesday - Saturday from 12-4 p.m.  Those interested should call 517-371-4600 to volunteer.

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) is seeking a new Executive Director for their state-wide organization. This staff position  is responsible for managing the complete functions of the MCACA. This director provides direction to MCACA's professional and non-professional staff, the 15-member Council and its representative committees, the administration of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the office of the Governor and legislature as necessary concerning the state of the arts and cultural sector in Michigan.

Conferences, Classes and Creative Opportunities

The Clinton County Arts Council is looking to partner with eight community groups or organizations to beautify the Fred Meijer CIS Trail underpass in St. Johns. Each group will design and paint their own mural with the help of muralist Tamara Brown.  This mural project is structured to be educational while also aiming to promote local talent and engage the community by turning empty walls into huge public canvases. Deadline to apply is Nov. 30.

Do you and your employees really know what you do? Join MSUFCU for the inaugural session of their Business Seminar Series on Nov. 1. This session will discuss ways to develop your message with your staff, share it across the company and then tell everyone about who you are and what you do through branding, video and marketing.

The arts field is recognizing and addressing the need for increased diversity in arts leadership. Join Americans for the Arts in a webinar on Oct. 31 titled Advancing the Diversity of your Board. In this webinar, participants will hear from leaders who have been deeply involved in this work and who will share their personal successes and challenges. These case studies will guide participants toward practical strategies to increase board diversity within their institutions.

DataArts, in partnership with the Arts Council, p resents a Fall Workshop series on Oct. 23 dedicated to learning the basics of completing the Cultural Data 
Profile  (CDP) on the DataArts platform. The sessions will also cover how to apply to participating grantmakers using the system and offer access to free analytics and educational opportunities from DataArts. This training is split into two sessions for beginners and those who have worked with DataArts in the past.

Local musician Colin Singer has an album coming out around Thanksgiving. He is looking for a local artist to help him create album art for the songs. 
Each song has a story, and an image should be created to go along with each one. There will be 12 songs and images total to tell a visual and audio story. Any interested artists can send inquiries directly to Colin.

Join the Arts Council for their next smARTS workshop on Oct. 24! Piper & Gold Public Relations is sharing key components of storytelling. In today's digital driven world, we are constantly being inundated with messages. It is important to stay true to who you are and ensure that your story comes across in a meaningful way. In this workshop, they will be taking a deeper dive into your story and assist you with creating a narrative that is true to you but can also resonate effectively with your audience. 

Join the growing list of member artists who have shown their work on the Arts Council's exhibit wall. Applications are now open for their 2019 Arts Council Round-One Exhibitions.  Exhibition space is available for the months of January through June.  All disciplines are encouraged to apply.  Stop by the Arts Council  during regular business hours to view the space and see if it  will accommodate  your work.  

The Downeaster Theatre is still seeking one youth participant for its upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet. No theatre (or Shakespeare!) experience required. Please reach out via email or call  to schedule an audition.

Yamana Gold Passion to Perform Artist Prize

Artists are welcome to submit paintings, drawings, sculptures and photography as entries to Passion to Perform.

Passion to Perform celebrates the interconnection between performance and passion, and aims to award winning entrants with meaningful compensation that can positively impact each artist's practice and encourage them to pursue their passion.

Passion To Perform is an international art contest that aims to recognize and reward outstanding emerging art talent. Through each edition of their contest, they build a collection that reflects ideals of excellence in performance and expressing passion in what they do.

The competition is open to any person practicing art, and each artist can submit up to two (2) entries. The panel of judges will initially review entries made through the online system. Following this, approximately 35 artists will be short listed. Only works that are short listed from the initial digital submission will be reviewed for final judging.

Deadline for online entry is Dec. 31 at 5:00 pm EST
