Description:
Basic neurobiology of Substance Use Disorders and how the brain is affected by psychoactive substances and how those changes influence thinking and behavior will be presented. Practical examples and tools for use by practitioners will be discussed. Suitable for mental health professionals, clients and parents.

Objectives:
  • Identify the difference between the psychology and the neurology of SUDs.
  • Describe the process to make appropriate diagnostic and treatment decisions for SUDs.
  • Identify overt and subtle behavioral indicators of SUDs.

Presenter:
Dr. Richard Kelly has been in counseling since 1977, including the treatment of SUDs. He has been the facilitator of opiate support groups since 2009 and has been in general psychotherapeutic private practice in Calvert County since 2006.
