'Wet: A DACAmented Journey' Starting Nov. 8th
"Wet: A DACAmented Journey" will be opening at ArtsEmerson's Paramount Center on Thursday, Nov. 8th.
The play is written and performed by Alex Alpharoah, who risks his own freedom to share his true story to become a documented American citizen. The play focuses on the unending process to become a citizen while flipping between hilariousness and heart-wrenching drama.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters' Bridge 2 The Future Fundraiser Nov. 8th
Support Bridge Over Troubled Waters (47 West St.) at its Bridge 2 The Future fundraiser on Thursday, Nov. 8th.
All proceeds will benefit Bridge Over Troubled Waters. The event provides attendees an opportunity to connect and collaborate with like-minded supporters for an evening in support of homeless, runaway, and high-risk youth that rely on Bridge programs and services.

'Lest We Forget' Photo Exhibit Presents Portraits of Holocaust Survivors in Boston Common
Photographer Luigi Toscano's "Lest We Forget" photo exhibit of 70 large portraits of Holocaust survivors from around the world is in the Boston Common through Nov. 10th.
Toscano, a German-Italian, started the project in 2015, and has photographed more than 200 survivors in seven countries.The exhibit has been staged in Germany, in Ukraine, and was recently surrounding the Lincoln Memorial's Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. Each survivor is identified and biographical details are provided at the portraits. |

The MBTA's commuter rail service is a key transportation option into and out of Downtown Boston. It supports our economy, connects people to jobs, healthcare, places of worship and education.
The focus of this event will examine lessons learned from comparable models of service such as London and Toronto. Both of those cities have transformed their rail systems to improve service within dense urban environments.
This is a free event that is open to the public thanks to funding from the Lowell Institute. The events starts at 5 pm. |

'Vision of Television: Early Experimental Artists TV Broadcasts' Exhibit Debuts at Emerson Urban Arts: Media Art Gallery Nov. 15th

The exhibition looks at the development of broadcast television in the 1950s and 1960s. TV was in its formative stage of program development during this time and postwar artists became interested in the medium as a way to reach more people.
This exhibition
examines a period of experimental artists' television programming in Europe and the United States that was first initiated by public television program broadcasts by WGBH in Boston and
West German Broadcasting (WDR).
There will be a reception for the exhibit on Nov. 15th, from 5 to 7 pm. The exhibit runs through Jan. 19th. The gallery is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 2 to 7 pm. |

Suffolk University Theatre Department
is presenting
"Loss of Breath: The Unfinished Life and Death of Edgar Allan Poe"
from
Nov. 15th through Nov. 18th
.
Written and directed by Wesley Savick, the play weaves together Poe's stories and biography with sideshow illustration, puppetry and Japanese Noh Theatre. The Puppet Showplace Theater has created puppets and masks to depict a realm between the life and death of Poe, his mother, spouse and more.

Boston Bhangra at Orpheum Theatre Nov. 17th
The 2018 Boston Bhangra competition will take place at the Orpheum Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 17th.
Bhangra is a folk dance from the Indian state of Punjab and parts of Pakistan. It has been compared to a fusion of hip-hop and cheerleading with a cultural twist. There will be 12 of the Bhangra teams from North America, who will vie against each other to be the Boston Bhangra champions.

The Broadway smash hit, Tony Award-winning musical
"Hamilton"
made its Boston debut at the
Boston Opera House
on Sept. 18th and will be in town through Nov. 18th.
The musical is based on Ron Chernow's biography of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton was an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War, was a Founding Father and America's first Treasury Secretary.
The show blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway to have America's present tell Hamilton's story from back in the 1700s.

Strolling BID Bands
The Downtown Boston BID's 2018 performance season features more than 1,600-plus live musical performances spread across the district. This week Ilana Katz Katz is performing at Exchange at 100 Federal Street from 4 to 6 pm.
Downtown Boston BID bands will also be strolling twice a day, six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 2 pm and 5 to 7 pm. |

ILLUMINUS Brought Adventurous Art with Light and Love to Downtown Boston
Thousands of fun-seeking families, residents, students and more came out to enjoy the two-night ILLUMINUS Light & Art Festival on Friday and Saturday.
This year's festival included an ice sculpture to convey climate change, audio and visual components to address topics such as immigration and artistic projections, controlled by spectators, shone onto buildings.
"ILLUMINUS was amazing because local artists came together to combine science and technology to create adventurous art that was engaging and exciting," said Anita Lauricella, BID Senior Planner. "This year's festival was really awesome because it gave everyone, young and old, the opportunity to be part of the art, often controlling it!"
This is the second year that the ILLUMINUS festival has taken place in Downtown Crossing. This year's two-night, 10-hour festival drew more than 126,000 to the Downtown Boston BID.
People lined up in droves for "Antipode Tunnel," which was in an alley off of Washington Street. The piece, made by
Vanessa Hafenbrädl and Ellen Oliver, was
a tunnel made with projection video and fog, with a professional dancer at the center. It was designed with the interest of constructing creatures of a hybrid nature that project the fears and hopes of human beings as they relate to current international politics, while also portraying a timeless projection of escapism.
While people were in line to enter the "Antipode Tunnel" they were entertained by Stephanie Houten's "Play," an interactive audiovisual installation that was activated through the triggering of buttons by passersby.
This year's festival even inspired an engagement proposal!
The HeartHug installation by Izobrulo Polylight, Ilya Sobol and Ivan Kabalin lit up when spectators hugged beneath the sculpture and the more people hugged, the brighter the heart shined!

Boston Red Sox Nation Celebrates
World Series Victory with
Rolling Parade Through Downtown Boston
Thousands of Boston Red Sox fans lined the streets from Fenway Park down past City Hall Plaza for the Sox's championship parade on Halloween.
Confetti fell from rooftops and windows as the Duck Boats made their way down Tremont Street.
Among the riders on the duck boats was Downtown Boston restaurateur
Ed Kane, below in red sweatshirt, who relished what could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many people.
"My first parade was in 2013 and it was great, but this year was one for the books," said Kane, owner of Explorateur and Versus. "
Having grown up in Dorchester, it was surreal to have the chance to ride on a duck boat in a World Series victory parade surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Red Sox fans who are so proud of this team. It was amazing seeing all the creative signs, cheering, screaming and just being so full of joy throughout the entire experience."

Tuesday, Nov. 6th.

is seeking volunteers to help at the Boston Tea Party Reenactment on Dec. 16th, 2018.
The volunteers who are needed will wear modern-day clothes and will not be costumed reenactors. Volunteers are needed for crowd management at the event and the parade.

Vendors Wanted for
2018 Downtown Boston Holiday Market
Vendor applications are now being accepted for the Downtown Boston BID 2018-2019 Downtown Holiday Market presented by Bank of America.
This year's market is in a pop-up location at 467 Washington St. The market will run from November 23rd through January 6th. There will be
numerous local vendors showcasing artisan products such as jewelry, woodcarvings, metal sculptures, food, candles, clothing, holiday goods and more throughout this holiday season.
The market is open seven days a week from 11 am to 7 pm Monday through Saturday, and 11 am to 5 pm on Sundays. The market's last day will be January 6th.

is for anyone to take a book and leave a book. The Readers Park Little Free Library was so popular that a second one was added to the district at
175 Federal St. (Summer Street side)
.
The general public is invited to donate free books to the BID's Little Free Libraries by dropping off books at the libraries or by contacting Kristen Flanagan at [email protected] to organize a pickup in the downtown area.
The BID's Little Free Libraries are officially registered with the
Little Free Library non-profit organization. There are actually more than 50,000 registered little free libraries across the country and world!
The BID's Little Free Libraries are
open daily from 10 am to 6 pm
(closed during inclement weather).
