A Note from the  CAS C Staff: 
Greetings CASC'ers,

We hope all of you who were eligible to vote did so during the midterm elections yesterday. Exercising your right to vote is an important aspect of democracy. 

Additionally, CASC will be participating in the 5th Annual Giving Blueday at the University of MichiganFor 24 hours, the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses encouraged supporters to help make donations  of all sizes to the cause of their choice. All of the donations for the CASC Minor on November 27 will go toward our Social Justice Internship Fund that provides funding for students committing to a social justice related internship in the summer. Considering and invite others to donate for our cause on Givingblue Day. 
Additionally, Drop in hours will be cancelled today.

Poverty Solutions at Drop In 
Interested in learning more about the Poverty Solutions Certificate? Meet a Poverty Solutions representative during our CASC Drop In hours next week!  The Poverty Solutions certificate is co-sponsored by the School of Social Work's  CASC Minor program  and  Poverty Solutions , a presidential initiative that seeks to leverage the intellectual assets and academic scope of the university toward preventing and alleviating poverty.

CASC-MSW Preferred Admissions Program
Students pursuing a Community Action and Social Change (CASC) minor may apply to the Office of Student Services (OSS)  in the School of Social Work for the Preferred Admission Program leading to a Master of Social Work (MSW) as early as their junior year.  For admissions criteria and additional information, visit the preferred admissions  website.

Native American Heritage Month
Each year, the office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA) honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors had lived in North America for hundreds of years. MESA and the Native American Student Association (NASA) have collaborated with campus partners to bring an exciting range of events that celebrate Native American culture with the University of Michigan campus community. U-M Veterans of Color Symposium 
The Veterans of Color Symposium recognizes and reflects on the experiences and contributions of Veterans of Color. The symposium consists of a speaker/panel, and or a documentary screening followed by a reception. This year the symposium will focus on the experiences of Arab-American veterans through a documentary screening and discussion.

Criminalization and the Carceral State 
The Carceral State Project 2018-19 Symposium  is the first major undertaking hosted by the University of Michigan Carceral State Project. The Symposium series will feature six roundtable discussions that interrogate the meaning of the carceral state-broadly defined-and its intersection with criminalization, policing, containment, surveillance, activism, and community building.

Join the Arab American Heritage Month Committee
The Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA) will be coordinating the Arab Heritage Month Planning Committee that will develop a theme for the celebration, pull together a calendar of all events on campus, plan or assist with an opening and closing even, create programs as needed and market the events to the broader U-M community. Michigan Affordability and Advocacy Coalition (MAAC) Statement Piece
MAAC is partnering with the Michigan Daily to produce a Statement piece on internship funding. MAAC is looking for students to submit an 800-1200 word article about experiences having an unpaid (or insufficiently paid) internships. Deadline to submit articles is November 15. Gender Revolution in the Trump Era: Transformations in Consciousness and Gender Relations
Explore the rapid transformation in gender consciousness and gender relations during this workshop with Dr. Pamela Aronson. Attendees will discuss changes stemming from three primary sources: the rise of women running for political office in 2018, the emergence of new social movement activism, and the creation of the "#MeToo" movement, which has sparked a new public discourse on sexual assault and harassment.

Building Power: Organizing Effectively Against White Supremacy Conference
The goal of this conference is to equip individuals with knowledge and strategies to engage in community organizing and individual action to resist white supremacy. Raise the Bar Volunteers
The University of Michigan Sexual Assault Prevention & Awareness Center (SAPAC) is loo
king for new volunteers to facilitate and evaluate workshops for their Raise the Bar program, which is designed to decrease the incidences of sexual and gender-based violence among University students within the Ann Arbor community, by providing tailored two-hour interactive workshops to bar staff on the subjects of sexual misconduct and bystander intervention. Global Scholars Program (GSP)
GSP  is an interdisciplinary academic living learning community that brings together international and U.S. sophomores, juniors, and seniors to engage in social justice education on a global level. U-M Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP) Art Auction 
PCAP invites you to an art auction that will help finance The 24th Annual Exhibition of Art by Michigan Prisoners. The auction will feature donated artwork by incarcerated artists, PCAP curators, University of Michigan faculty and community artists. Admission is free.

Hands of Hope Internship 
Hands of Hope is Casa de Esperanza's internship program which recruits recent college graduates and other highly qualified young adults, from throughout the United States. These interns have a desire to help abused, neglected and HIV positive children through work with their agency. International Internships 
Applications for a collection of curated, high-quality global experiences available exclusively to LSA students will open in the LSA Opportunity Hub beginning in October. The program's transformative opportunities include structured support from the beginning of the application process through the end of the internship. Learn more.

Design for Global Health Academic Program 
The Design for Global Health Academic Program is sponsored by the University of Michigan Global Health Design Initiative and provides students with an opportunity to address global health challenges through clinical immersion and design coursework. Deadline is November 11. Learn more and apply

Semester in Detroit

Development Summer Internship Program (D-SIP)
D-SIP) provides you with a 12-week engaging summer experience comprised of a meaningful work project in philanthropy, academic coursework, and valuable professional development experiences. Through these 3 components, you will build a professional network of colleagues and establish lasting friendships with a cohort of interns hailing from a variety of schools and colleges on the U-M campuses. UM Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)
SEP is an 8-week summer internship program for undergraduate students committed to eliminating racial, ethnic and socioeconomic health disparities. SEP has been placing students in health care organizations in Southeast Michigan. Deadline is January 25. Learn more and apply.
Funding Opportunities
Daring Dance Student Fellowship  
The Daring Dances Student Fellowship is intended to support students or student organizations at the University of Michigan interested in both dance and social justice. Both financial support and community-based mentorship are offered for performance-based student projects and/or professional development.

Foreign Language and and Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS)
FLAS Fellowships provide tuition support and a stipend to students studying designated foreign languages in combination with area studies or international aspects of professional studies. International Institute Student Fellowships (IISF)

Luce Scholars Program 2019-2020
Boren Fellowship
Boren Fellowship are awarded to graduate students for the purpose of overseas language study, academic study, research (either Master's or Ph.D. level), an academic internship, or any combination of the above. In addition, Boren Fellowships can provide limited funding for domestic language study that will supplement the overseas component. Application deadline is January 30. Learn more and apply
