Weekly News and Updates
March 18, 2021

The Big Red House Party is two days away! THANK YOU to all of the families that have donated items and purchased raffle tickets so far. Register for the event by clicking here!

Second Trimester report cards were distributed on Wednesday, March 17. Please sign the report card envelope and return it to the homeroom teacher. If you would like to request a conference with a teacher, please mark the report card envelope and send it back to school signed. Conferences will be virtual during the afternoon of March 26.

If you are planning to travel over spring break, please let the office know where you will be going and your return date, so we can plan a return to school date for your student(s). With current Archdiocesan guidance, travel to "orange" states requires a 10 day quarantine or proof of a negative COVID test to return to school. This is not meant as an inconvenience to families rather as a way to ensure that our staff and students are kept healthy and learning in person.

Per the email from Dr. Rigg to families sent this week, we will not be ACT Aspire testing in grades 3-8 in the spring. All of our K-8 students will take the third i-Ready diagnostic as a measure of growth for the school year. The diagnostic will be given in May and more information will be forthcoming.

I want to thank each family for your continued support of St. Edward School, for your adherence to our health and safety protocols this year, and for your ongoing prayers.

If you have any questions, please reach out.

St. Edward, pray for us!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Sara Lasica
Principal

New Family Referral Program
Refer a new family to St. Ed's for the 2021-22 school year and receive $500 off of your tuition after they register and attend next year! You can do this an unlimited amount of times!

  • TRIP update: E-gift cards can be purchased through the Raise Right app at anytime!
  • Next TRIP due date: 3/25/21
Please continue to report positive cases, close contacts with positive cases, and travel outside of Illinois to the office as soon as possible. If you have any questions regarding a positive case, close contact, quarantine dates, or anything else relating to our COVID procedures, please contact me. If you suspect a family member in your household of being sick, please keep your students home until we can determine next steps. We would rather one student be absent for a day than face the need to quarantine an entire cohort.
Strong families foster strong children. As Catholics, our source of strength comes from God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the best way to develop a relationship with our loving God is to pray! Pray as a family daily. Grace before dinner, a Hail Mary before bedtime, an Our Father on the way to school in the morning. Find a time, pick a prayer, and grow closer to God!
There is still time to donate to the Tax Credit Scholarship program and receive a 75% tax credit on your IL taxes. We have over 20 students on our waiting list for scholarships for next year!
Big Red House Party
Virtual Live Auction
and Comedy Show

This year's Big Red House Party virtual auction and stand-up comedy show featuring Pat Tomasulo will be held on Saturday, March 20 at 7 pm. This is our single biggest fundraiser of the year and we need everyone's help to make it a success!

The Auction along with the Fall Walk-a-Thon and Advent Raffle are fundraisers to meet the needs of our operating budget. Tuition does not cover the full expenses of the school, so we rely on these fundraisers to meet the budget gap. Many Catholic schools have mandatory fundraising fees that cover the difference between tuition and budget needs; we do not require families to pay a fundraising fee.

You can find all this information and more about the evening at www.bigredhouseparty.com
Stay tuned for more information in the weeks ahead!

St. Edward School Board Openings

The St. Edward School Board will have three open positions at the end of this school year. The School Board is an advisory board that helps to guide the principal and pastor on various aspects of the school including fundraising, marketing, enrollment, financials, culture, long-term planning, among other areas. Meetings are approximately once a month, and positions are open to adults who are school parents or parishioners of St. Edward Parish. If you are interested or have questions, please email Ann Schultz at annmschltz@gmail.com.
3C Survey

The Archdiocese is utilizing the 3C Survey through the University of Chicago 5Essentials Survey this spring. Results from the survey given to current parents, teachers, and students in grades 4-8 will be used to plan our school improvement goals as well as the Archdiocesan improvement goals. Each parent is invited and encouraged to participate in the survey, which should not take more than a few minutes. You can access the survey here. The survey is open until March 26.
Art Department Update

Our 7th and 8th Grade students participated in the "Creating on the Margins" art contest through the Archdiocese of Chicago. Some of our students' artwork was chosen to be displayed this Sunday online.
