Use caution when traveling in school zones
Students are returning to classrooms for in-person instruction after a year of distance learning. While this is an important COVID milestone, it means increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic, particularly around school zones.

Drivers need to:

  • Recognize school zones and slow down
  • Expect increased traffic around schools
  • Make eye contact with pedestrians and yield to them
  • Come to complete stops at stop signs and crosswalks
  • Look out for buses and bus stops
  • Obey crossing guards

Pedestrians and bicyclists – both adults and children – need to:

  • Use marked crosswalks
  • Look both ways before crossing streets
  • Wear properly fitted bicycle helmets
  • Ride bicycles in the same direction as traffic
  • Avoid distractions
