You Asked for More Zumba and You're Gonna Get it!
Zumba w/Adriana Oyarzun
Monday Evenings, 7:00-7:45pm
Starts September 17th

No experience necessary! Zumba®  is for everybody and EVERY body. All ages and fitness levels welcome.

We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise.

A total workout, combining all elements of fitness - cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. You will experience boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.

Debut class on Sept. 17 is FREE for everyone!   SIGN UP
Concept2 Fall Team Challenge
Help CRUfit Build on our Endurance Rowing Tradition
September 15 - October 15

Hey, we only do this 2x each year so let's get fired up!

CRUfit rowers will be competing against rowers around the world during the Fall Team Challenge. The competition is based on total meters rowed. There are no fast or slow meters - just meters. This Fall we are aiming to field a team of 80 to 100 athletes and we will attempt to best our team record of 10.8 million meters which we set during the World Erg Challenge last Spring. CRUfit has a history of strong results in Concept2's challenges. In the last seven challenges, we recorded one second place finish, four 3rd place finishes and two 4th place finishes in the worldwide health club category.

Even if you have a logbook on the Concept2 website and have been part of the CRUfit Team before, you still need to opt in for The Challenge. Click for  complete  INSTRUCTIONS

We are urging all Challenge participants to set a personal meters goal for the 31 days during The Challenge period. Here is a quick guide for those who intend to row 20 times during The Challenge period.:

5,000 meters a day = 100,000m
7,500 meters a day = 150,000m
10,000 meters a day = 200,000m
15,000 meters a day = 300,000m

During the Challenge period, we will help you identify your meters rowed after each training session so you can post them in your logbook. Your meters will automatically be tallied for the CRUfit team and we will all be watching the standings.

Let's be ready to go and get off to a fast start on on Saturday, September 15th. Come to Mark's class at 7am or Colin's class at 11:30am on the 15th. Plan on coming back on Sunday, September 16th for Open Row at 11am. Let's Go!
CRUfitter  Paul McDonald Reports
World Championships: Triathlon in Denmark and Dragon Boats in Hungary

I have been training year round to compete in Triathlons, specifically the Aqua-Bike; the swim and the bike. The meniscus in my knees was worn away about 8 years ago so no more running (yay). My training has been directed by Paul Kinney of Kinney Multisport and Mark here at CRUfit. As I have improved over this time period, I kept entering longer events eventually doing a couple of "Iron Man" distances. Even though I'm not very fast, I usually do quite well in the finishing standings because no one else in my age group shows up, ha ha. That has been true of the three Nationals that I've done, getting a 3rd, a 1st and a 2nd. All of these are open to anyone, no pre qualification required. My 2nd place finish at Nationals last year and my 2nd place standing in the yearly rankings qualified me for the World ITU competition in Denmark on July12. All three of my daughters (see photo below) plus two grand kids and a son-in-law came to cheer me on which was really great. I was the only one that I saw with their own personal support squad, all with shirts reading "Go Dad" and "Go Grandpa." There were only four registered in my age group (75 to 79) and when the Canadian didn't show up on race morning, I knew all I had to do was finish and I would get a podium. I was fortunate to do my best swim and my best bike and make all the cut-off times (a major concern for me). Happily,I got a third; a life event for me. I was so grateful that I did well so my family could be proud and go home with good news. Who knows, maybe if I keep at it and train hard, maybe someday I'll actually beat somebody, ha ha. But, seriously, I know it was a major accomplishment and I was very proud to represent my Country on the podium as a member of Team USA.

It was pure coincidence that the World Championships for dragon boats was in Szeged Hungary the following week. I have been an on-and-off member on DragonMax in Berkeley for a few years. Knowing several DragonMax team members who work out regularly at CRUfit, I heard about the opportunity early and was able to phase into their practice schedule a few months before the event. They have many strong and skilled paddlers in the Senior C division which was part of the 85 member contingent who traveled to represent DragonMax. The event was over five days and the international competition was very tough. There were many heats every day so everyone got to paddle every day. It was a great experience to visit Hungary and compete in that venue against so many world class teams.

We LOVE to hear about your travel adventures, milestones, and interesting involvements. Send us a snapshot or two along with a blurb and we'll share with the CRUfit community!
