Community Service Assembly

This afternoon, we will be hosting a Community Service Assembly with  Facing Homelessness - Denver  founder, Amber Dinh.
In alignment with our commitment to give back to our community and those around us, and with the holiday season quickly approaching, we are hosting a wonderful project for the WCA community to 'give back' on the National Day of Giving on December 3rd, 2019.

In order to create a spirit of gratitude, understanding, and generosity in our school and the WCA community, we are partnering with Facing Homelessness Denver to inform students about those less fortunate than us, who may not have a warm home, adequate clothing, or basic necessities that we often take for granted.

Today, we will hold an assembly for all of our students and staff. Our hope is to create a greater understanding in our students and community, of the issue of homelessness in our surrounding area.  Parents who wish to, are welcome to attend.  Students in grades K-3 will be attending the assembly from 2:00 - 2:30pm. Students in grades 4-8 will attend from 2:45 - 3:15pm.

6th Grade History Project

In sixth grade social studies, students celebrated their learning from our Ancient Greece and Rome unit by completing creative projects about a person of their choice from that time period. Their projects included explaining a day in the life of the person, providing interesting details about their daily activities, and making an artifact to represent their person.

Many students took this as an opportunity to explore the everyday lives of ordinary Greeks or Romans while others wanted to learn more about famous emperors, fierce warriors, and unique women in history. Some of the incredible artifacts that students made were a life-sized spear, a Spartan helmet, and an Olympic olive wreath. It was a fun opportunity for students to showcase their learning by choosing what they were most interested in and taking the time to make a creative project based on their own research.

Note: Spear by Pierce Broome, wreath by Kenna Winters, helmet by Levi Bohrer.
