Should your neighborhood restaurant be allowed to serve cocktails?
|
On November 6, you'll find not only candidates on your ballot, but referendums as well. One of those referendums would allow your favorite neighborhood restaurants to serve hard liquor. According to an old-fashioned notion known as the "seven-acre rule," restaurants outside of downtown Minneapolis must lie within a stretch of seven contiguous commercial districts in order to serve hard alcohol. While some may already serve hard liquor outside of this zone, that is because they went through the tedious process of getting an exemption from the state legislature. If you want all restaurants in Minneapolis, regardless of location, to have the ability to serve cocktails, vote "Yes on 1 MPLS" tomorrow.
