In support of two important issues close to our hearts.
This year WRS is joining Planned Parenthood of Northern California contingent in the Pride Parade in San Francisco.

WRJ Pacific District AREA DAY 7/15
Location: Temple Isaiah, Lafayette, CA
We invite you to join the Sisterhood women from Northern California at our Area Day this summer.
Please join us for a day of learning with members of other Northern California Temples. We will carpool together form our Temple Parking Lot and have a day of learning and bond

Our Sisterhood feels so strongly about this type of leadership development that we will pay the registration cost for you for the day -- breakfast and lunch included!
The full program on Sunday, July 15 , will feature a presentation from our District First Vice President, Dana Adler, a keynote presentation on Human and Sex Trafficking by Laurel Sgro, and a discussion with Rabbi Julie Saxe-Taller, Northern California Senior Organizer for the Religious Action Center.
The day will also include information on the YES Fund and it's impact on our youth. There will be workshops as well as opportunities to connect with women from other sisterhoods. Our Saturday afternoon program will include the opportunity for Torah study, either on the trail (around the reservoir in Lafayette), or in the garden of our host sisterhood, Women of Isaiah. We hope you can join us!

WOMEN'S RETREAT May 4-6
at Westerbeke Ranch

Spending so much time looking forward,
ignoring the moments in which we live,
juicing our lives for all it would give.
Now the years are passing. Getting faster.
We were looking forward to experiences.
Now we're looking back at memories.
Regretting what cannot be undone.
Wishing we'd had a little bit more fun.
It's a wonder we met at all. Priorities wrong.
One day you were here. Now you're gone.
Years spent running after things.
Never stopping to laugh and sing.
Running in circles until we slide into the grave.
When's the last time you stopped to wave?

What a great group of women!
What some Westerbeke Ranch staff members said:
- "Here at the ranch, we always cheer when we hear that Women of Rodef Sholom are coming!"
- "We love how you are so wonderful together, self sufficient, and a delight. "
- "And what was that? Chanting or singing? So spiritual. I know nothing about being Jewish but that was so moving. I stopped working on Saturday and took time to listen. Made my day."
- "Oh, and, later, I noticed there was a man with a guitar (Dan Nichols). Was that okay? Wondered if he had somehow wandered in."
She wasn't the only person at Westerbeke who took time to listen to our Shabbat morning service. Several other workers, all women, sat outside the Round House enjoying the sun and our singing. One
said "That is so beautiful."

What an inspirational and moving service it was! Thank you to Diane Amarillas, Chair, Amy Friedricks (and all the musicians) and all who helped create such a meaningful Shabbat service. It was such a lovely evening filled with love and song!

| A Note From Our President |

This is my last Note From the President. It is hard for me to believe three years has gone by so quickly. I am thrilled Lucy Schneidman will be our next Women of Rodef Sholom Sisterhood President. If you don't know her yet, just you wait. You will love her!
When I reflect on the past three years I think of how many wonderful people I have had the opportunity to get to know. I have learned so much from so many. There is so much wisdom, humor and life experience in our community. By getting more deeply involved in our organization I have gained leadership skills and attended wonderful conferences. I have even learned some rudimentary computer skills. But it is the relationships that have meant the most. You don't need to take on a large volunteer commitment to have this experience. Just join us at an event, help us set up for the jewelry sale, share your ideas about a new program, drop by one of our board meetings, come to Chai Mitzvah class and study with your new friends.
I am so grateful to have had this opportunity. Thank you for all your kind words and support. Join me in welcoming Lucy. We are blessed to be in this community of caring women who are forever Stronger Together. - Susan

Dear Friends,
It was just a few weeks ago that many of us were together at Westerbeke Ranch celebrating Shabbat as only we can at the WRS Annual Retreat. We sang, we prayed, and we studied Torah. We spent time outdoors, laughed together, and challenged each other. We struggled with the texts that we were given, and questioned what it was that made us holy, what made our lives holy, and how we could bring more holiness into our interactions with each other and the world. And we took some deep breaths together as we found the holiness in our day of Shabbat.
I find myself breathing a little easier as we welcome these summer months, just as we did on that Shabbat, and often think about how we can incorporate that feeling into the rest of our year. This summer time often feels a bit like a Shabbat from the rest of the year, a change of pace, a chance to do things intentionally rather than feeling like running from one thing to the next as we do during the rest of the year.
I invite you to choose something to do differently this summer, something that helps you to let your shoulders down and change your pace just a little bit as only the summer months might allow us to do. Maybe it's attending a Shabbat Under the Stars service outdoors on the first Friday of July or August. Maybe it's a walk on the beach, or around the lagoon, or up a mountain with a friend. Maybe it's seeing a show or listening to some music outdoors. Or maybe it's as simple as a deep breath or a minute to stop and focus.
As Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel writes, "
Unlike the space-minded [person] to whom time is unvaried, iterative, homogeneous, to whom all hours are alike, quality-less, empty shells, the Bible senses the diversified character of time. There are no two hours alike. Every hour is unique and the only one given at the moment, exclusive and endlessly precious."
Whatever it is that you choose to do, I hope that you take the opportunity to find the uniqueness in time this summer and the holiness in those moments. And I hope that perhaps there is opportunity to share those together.
