Dear St. George Families,
Sometimes I find myself thinking, "Thank goodness Michelle and I are not raising kids anymore!" The world seems more complex and, at times, troubling. Then I remember, "Wait - we have a grandchild - so we cannot just "wash our hands" of the challenges of raising children in this world.
We often have conversations with our kids about how they grew up and how it affects how they are raising our grandchildren. It seems that everyone agrees that family life today is too hectic. They agree that they long to have unscheduled days when they can be at home and simply play. However, they also agree that changing these circumstances is not as easy as it seems!
It occurred to me, though, that perhaps one solution could be to always remember our purpose as parents and teachers. I compare it to remembering to "see the forest" and not "let the trees" obscure the bigger picture. If we remember what our long term goal for our children is, I think it might help us make those daily decisions of how we spend our time as a family.
We have shared with our children the guiding beliefs that we had when we were raising them, and I encouraged them to think about what was guiding them as parents and adults. Our beliefs were faith, each other, and family - in that order. I explained to them how those beliefs led us to insist that we go to Mass as a family, that we pray for one another, that we sacrifice to send them to Catholic schools, that we remain "other centered" in our marriage, that we have family meals together, that we all go to each other's activities, and that we welcome others into our home. This is not meant to imply that we always lived our lives in perfect accord with our beliefs - to claim that would be more than a stretch! However, I must say, that sending our kids to Catholic schools played a tremendous role in helping us live out our family beliefs.
What is guiding you in raising your children? If, after reflection, you believe that changes are in order, I pray that you will have the wisdom and perseverance to make them!

LSU TIGER SPIRIT DAY - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND
On Friday, November 2nd, all students will be allowed to wear purple, gold or LSU Tig er logo wear shirts over their St. George uniform bottoms.  
*  PreK - 5th Girls must wear spirit shirt over jumpers
*  Boys do not need to wear uniform shirt under spirit shirt
*  Middle school girls do not need to wear their white blouse under spirit shirt
* Uniform bottoms (jumpers, shorts, skorts), shoes and other uniform guidelines apply

STAGGERED DISMISSAL FOR NO BUS DAY
 TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6
  • All students will arrive in the carpool lines
  • After care and after school activities will occur on this day. These students will remain on campus and in homeroom for the full school day.
  •  Parents will park and pick up children directly from the classroom
  •  Students who carpool will go to the youngest carpooler's classroom at the youngest carpooler's time of dismissal (schedule below)
  •  All students will be signed out from the homeroom they are picked up from according to the schedule below
     
  •  1:10-1:30- PreK, K, 1st and older carpoolers dismissal
  •  1:50-2:10- 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and older carpoolers
  •  2:50-3:10- 6th, 7th and 8th graders

Grandparent's Day - 
Friday, November 9th 
Kindergarten - 8th Grades
  • Volunteers are needed for Grandparent's Day  - many volunteer opportunities are available.
  • Golf carts and golf cart drivers are need for Grandparent's Day
  • If you would like to help on this special day, email Melissa Terrell ([email protected]), Home and School Association Special Events Coordinator.
  • Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to hosting our grandparents and special friends on November 9th!
GRANDPARENT'S DAY PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
  • We will be offering professional portrait packages on Grandparent's Day by Barberito Photography 
  • Portrait order envelopes were sent home with students
  • Extra order envelopes are available at the school front desk  
  • Order envelopes can be turned into the office prior to Grandparent's Day or brought directly to the photographer at the time of photo
  • Please fill out the order envelope with the information for your youngest or only child at St. George
  • Payment should be included if the envelope is turned in ahead of time  
  • Order forms will also be available in the gym on the day of the event
  • Pictures will be taken in the gym from 10:00 am -1:15 pm
  • Students and Grandparents will take pictures after the student has been checked out from their homeroom teacher for the day  
  • Students with older siblings should not be checked out until the older student session is over 
  • Younger students are not permitted into older student classrooms or the reception or the church performance
  • We hope this will be a wonderful memento for your child and their Grandparents

November cafeteria payments are due now . All school meal payments are due in advance. Please remember to send extra funds for seconds and extra items.

November Breakfast prices: Full - $31.45, Reduced - $5.10  
  • Cash and Check payments are accepted at school.
  • Online credit card and bank draft payments are available at www.myschoolbucks.com.
  • All families are encouraged to set up alerts and monitor your students' cafeteria purchases at  www.myschoolbucks.com.  It is not necessary to make payments in order to set up an account.
       Adult meal price - $5.50 - exact amount or check only.

  • All food items brought to school for birthdays (PreK and K only), gold slip parties, holiday parties, retreats, etc. must be store bought and must contain a label. The items must be nut free, including but not limited to peanuts and tree nuts (almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, chestnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, pinenuts and walnuts). 
  • If a product label says the food item contains, may contain, is produced in a facility that contains or is manufactured on equipment that processes peanuts and or tree nuts, this item is unacceptable.  
  • Home prepared food items are not allowed.
  • Please read labels and plan accordingly when choosing snacks to bring to school.
