Adorned with my Harley Davidson t-shirt and leather boots I made my way to a Trucking Company which is one of the businesses for which I Chaplain. I had prayed about what to wear to their Halloween celebration though I don't necessarily believe in that "holiday". I do believe in "redeeming the time" and letting God use everything for His Kingdom! My daughter had applied false eyelashes to go with my red lips and I even sported a drawn-on tattoo that said "Mom" on my shoulder. A group in costume that had gathered outside to take pictures began to laugh as they recognized it was me under all the props! "I'm the new Harley Chaplain" I announced! The PR people in this great company make events like this fun which included the Chili-cook-off and prizes which build good relationships. As I made my way through the building of dispatchers I was introduced to some truckers I had not seen before that had come, I think for the chili! "This is our Chaplain!" they said with a smile. The costume opened the door for me and God was redeeming the time!
It's so important that we don't get "religious" in these opportunities but instead see how God wants to use it! I remember when I worked as a hairdresser in California years ago in a salon that was into things I was not to. I had prayed about accepting this job and felt God's "yes" on it. I was surprised to find that they openly looked at Playgirl magazines, read horoscopes and told dirty jokes. I was a Bible study leader and had been a stay at home Mom before working there and was not used to this. Yet I knew that I was led to work there. Day by day I went to work and just loved them. One day as I walked in with my lunch as I always did and headed for the little apartment size refrigerator in the back room, the girls began to giggle. I knew something was up and wasn't sure what. When I opened the refrigerator there pasted from top to bottom was the center-fold of a naked man! I let out a scream and they all laughed from the other room. "Lord, what do you want me to do with this?" I asked Him. Then the idea came. (He is so very smart!) I grabbed a band-aid from our First Aid kit and pasted it across the model's private part leaving the picture still hanging inside. Later when the gals went to get their lunches, expecting that I had ripped up the picture in religious indignation, they were surprised as well! They began to laugh, and the door of communication opened wide. Every one of the precious gals became believers and friends because God was allowed to use the opportunity!
During this time of Fall and Winter Holidays ask God what He would have you do. Keep in mind you can be true to your beliefs without judging others if they are not where you are! Go the second mile of showing love!
"Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; ... not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people], making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil." (Eph 5:15,16)
God will redeem situations from boots to naked men if we allow Him! Let's keep our heart free from judgment and walk in love! For love never ever fails! (1 Cor 13:8)
I am raising up an army of prayer warriors that will walk in love and purity that God will use in this end time harvest!
