Here is an update of what is happening at
House of Prayer this week!
Worship This Sunday
Whoever is not against us is for us. For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward. "If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea. Mark 9:40-42

The scripture for Sunday contains enough wisdom to fill a month of Sundays. What we will read in 5 minutes could be pondered for a lifetime. It comes down to what we practice every day. How do we work against our brothers and sisters in Christ? What expression might we use that carries negative connotations to children believing in God? We are called to be in peace with one another and witness to the small and big miracles in our lives. Come on Sunday to nurture your spirit and celebrate the goodness of our Father.
Children & Youth This Week
The Sunday School children finish their unit on Moses and the burning bush with a focus on listening to what God calls us to do. Next week the youth will have a learning night with their peer groups: 5th/6th grade will learn about Herod, Confirmation will learn about Feeding the 5,000, and high school will learn about God's judgment & forgiveness.
Simple Supper Menu
Menu for October 3rd:  Thai fried rice (veggie and pork) broccoli salad, mini egg rolls, apple pie.  Join us for dinner at 5:30pm in Fellowship Hall!
Card Ministry Sale Sunday
Card ministry will be selling their cards before and after services today. They have been busy making cards all summer, so please stop by.
Housing Team Success!
On Tuesday the Richfield Community Housing Team (including several House of Prayer folks) attended the Richfield City Council meeting where they unanimously passed a Tenant Protection Ordinance and Inclusionary Housing Policy! This is great news and was made possible by the hard work of this team and many community members. The team is now looking beyond these great steps to decide what happens next to continue protecting tenants, preserving existing affordable housing, and producing new affordable housing in town. If you'd like to get involved, please contact Ben Whalen ( [email protected] or 612-500-9523).
Chili-FEAST
In the spirit of FEAST (1st Sunday of month at ReFuel), we encourage all chili makers to bring a pot of chili to share on Sunday, Oct 7 at 11am. It will be a smorgasbord of goodness that will bowl you over! Sign up on the attendance card or contact Pastor Ben at [email protected] with questions.
Helping Our Literal Neighbors
We have another opportunity to help Aeon, the housing nonprofit who recently bought the Season's Park Apartment buildings to the south of church. They continue to catch up on a LOT of deferred maintenance that previous owners ignored. They'd like our help painting the interior common areas in one of their buildings on Sunday, October 28th from noon-3pm. We'll eat lunch together after the 11:00 service is done and then head over to paint! If you'd like to join us, please sign up with Ben Whalen ( [email protected] or 612-500-9523). We also appreciate financial contributions to this cause and will have a special offering on September 30th. The anticipated budget for all their repairs is about $4.1 million but it only takes $800 to paint a building so every little bit helps make more progress!
Submit Funding Requests to HOP Foundation
The HOP Foundation meets Monday, October 8th, at 7:15 pm. Any funding requests should be sent to Foundation Treasurer, Scott Wright at [email protected] ASAP. You can pick up a HOP Foundation Funding Request Forms in the church office, or send Scott an email to request the form as an email attachment.
Preschool News
Thank you to Mike Murphy who came and planted succulents with the preschoolers this week. The children loved picking out their plants, adding soil and finding a spot to admire them in our room. They will take care of them throughout the year. Do you have a skill you'd like to share with the preschoolers? Contact Nicole Olson: [email protected].
High School Mission Trip 2019 - Chicago
The high schoolers have opted to go to Chicago next summer on a weeklong mission trip through an organization called Serve Boldly. Parents and youth who are interested in the trip are encouraged to attend an informational meeting after youth group (8pm) on Oct 3rd.
Read With Students
A new school year means another chance to help 3rd, 4th, or 5th graders at Richfield Dual Language School (RDLS) develop their reading skills! One on one help with students for an hour each week makes a HUGE difference in children's academic success and you can help make that happen. Scheduling is flexible and no teaching experience is necessary. Please talk with Ben Whalen ( [email protected] or 612-500-9523) to learn more.
The Sheridan Story
Starting up again with the new school year is our partnership with The Sheridan Story and Centennial Elementary. Many students rely on free or inexpensive meals at school which means the weekends & holiday breaks can stretch their families' grocery budgets. The Sheridan Story provides food packs to students in hopes of alleviating that stress. If you'd like to donate to this cause or volunteer on Friday mornings to help distribute food packs, please reach out to Ben Whalen for more info ( [email protected] or 612-500-9523).
LSS Children's Clothing Store
