Area Students Spend Day at Career Exploration Event

On October 23rd Oshkosh West High School hosted the Career Exploration Fair for area students. During this one-day event, nearly 800 eighth grade and 200 high school students from both public and private schools in Oshkosh and Omro learned about different careers options from community representatives.

This year, the Oshkosh Area School District and the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce partnered to welcome more than 75 community representatives from 16 different career clusters. The career clusters were representatives from Oshkosh Chamber members, Fox Valley Technical College, UW-Oshkosh, elected representatives, trade unions, City of Oshkosh and Winnebago County.

"The Chamber supports providing students with career exploration as part of the foundation for area workforce development. Having the opportunity to interact with adults in different occupations and learn what type of training and education is required provides the opportunity for some authentic learning experiences. Starting exploration before you graduate high school is another way to assist students better understand their options and increase their success." said Patti Andresen-Shew, Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce Director of Education and Talent Development.

This event is made possible thanks to our generous sponsors at the Oshkosh Area School System,,Oshkosh West Culinary, and ATT, who presented the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce with a $5,000 contribution to support career exploration programs. Special thanks go out to our volunteers from Oshkosh West High School who assisted the presenters.

The Oshkosh Chamber is always looking to further opportunities for area students in career exploration and school to work experiences. Please contact Patti Andresen-Shew at  [email protected] for more information.
