MESSAGE SENT IN EARLY SEPTEMBER - RECAP:
Remodel Status, Orientation & Schedules

Due to construction issues, including the Operating Engineers' strike, our remodel is behind schedule.  We are set back about one month, which impacts this instruction year, and the next.  This is happening at a time when we have an unprecedented number of apprentices enrolled.   We appreciate your patience a great deal.

Here are the changes happening as a result of this delay:

ORIENTATION

  • We are NOT hosting apprentice orientations in the month of September
  • We will schedule 4th & 5th Year Orientation in mid-October
  • We will hold Orientation for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year Apprentices on the first day of daytime class

SCHEDULES

  • We will be notifying 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year Apprentices of their first day of class by the end of September - not all nighttime classes may be scheduled by then
  • We will be giving 4th and 5th Year Apprentices their schedules at Orientation
It's very likely we'll start with a few key classes, and increase as the year progresses. Last year, we front-loaded classes, in anticipation of the remodel start in May; even though we had to cancel a few classes, we hit our instruction year requirements.  This year, we may scale up more classes by spring.  This all depends on Phase II of the project, which will conclude in March, 2019.

We're all in this for the long haul, and the instructors and staff are working very hard to adapt curricula to online platforms, condense training, look at different delivery models, and more.

We will be asking for volunteers to help us move items into the new offices and classrooms, too - stay tuned.

If you have questions, call or email P.J.Moss or Heather Winfrey.  Again, thanks for patience.

FREE T-SHIRTS for TEXTBOOKS!

Apprentices receive many textbooks during their programs, and some will be important references for years to come. Others are useful while you are in a specific class, but can be returned once the class is done. Setting up a Library Loan system helps us save money and direct funds to equipment and hands-on materials.

This summer, if you return at least two books from the below list, and they are in good condition, we'll order you a high--visibility Seattle Area Pipe Trades T-Shirt!

  • UA Advanced Plan Reading & Drawing
  • UA Drawing Interpretation & Plan Reading
  • UA Foreman Training Manual
  • UA Hydronic Heating & Cooling
  • UA Oxy-Fuel Practices
  • UA Pipes, Fittings, Valves
  • UA Plumbing Fixtures & Appliances
  • UA Pneumatic Controls
  • UA Related Math
  • UA Related Science
  • UA Rigging (NOT Steamfitters!)
  • UA Soldering & Brazing
  • UA Steam Systems
  • UA Tube Bending
  • UA Use & Care of Tools
  • UA Welding Practices & Procedures

After this summer, we'll collect these books at the end of each class on a routine basis, so this SPECIAL OFFER for a FREE T-SHIRT is limited!
