CPC welcomes Charles Pettee and Terry Allebaugh
of FolkPsalm this Sunday!
FolkPsalm was founded in 2002 by acclaimed musician Charles Pettee,
who has interpreted and arranged the Psalms to music.
FolkPsalm is renowned for bringing new sounds, harmonies and meaning
to the ancient Hebrew poetry. FolkPsalm has an array of musicians that play
in different configurations. This Sunday Charles is joined by his longtime friend and familiar CPC personality Terry Allebaugh on harmonica.
Three Psalms will be featured during morning worship.

Hurricane Florence Disaster Assistance
Bearing witness to the compassionate and generous spirit of Cary Presbyterian has been the refrain of "what can we do?" "how can we help?"
We are all anxious to help the victims of Hurricane Florence. Below you'll find several ways CPC can offer assistance beginning with gathering supplies to pack cleaning buckets for people to use as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives.
So how can I help?
Build a Hurricane Recovery Bucket: DEADLINE, SEPTEMBER 30
1. Sign up here to purchase items for the buckets.
2. Items must be returned to the CPC Narthex by 11 a.m. worship on September 30.
2. To pack a bucket at home, obtain a complete list of items needed for a cleaning bucket from Kim Riffle ([email protected]). Return completed bucket to CPC Narthex by 11 a.m. worship on September 30.
3. Donate money to assist with obtaining supplies by indicating 'Buckets' on your envelope or check to CPC.
The CPC Middle Schoolers will be assembling the cleaning buckets on September 30 for their evening youth group event. All are welcome to join in the fun at 7pm in the Middle School youth room.

Contribute to Cary Presbyterian Preschool's Diaper Drive
CPP, a ministry of Cary Presbyterian Church, is hosting a diaper drive to restock supplies at the Diaper Bank of North Carolina (ncdiaperbank.org) as they ship hygiene kits to affected areas and continue to serve our local community. For the next 3 weeks there will be a box in the preschool hallway to receive diapers and wipes. Open packages are welcome. Of particular need are size 4 and 5.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance also offers the following advice from their long record of service: Unneeded or inappropriate donations become a disaster in themselves, because they have to managed and stored or moved and in some cases thrown out. DO NOT SEND OR GIVE CLOTHES.
We cannot take items into the disaster area for which there is no request and there is not a specific place to take it. Unneeded items become a burden to the survivors and their community.
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam...

Fair Trade Table open this coming Sunday
Please visit the Fair Trade table outside the Fellowship Hall this coming Sunday, September 30.
We will be open before and after the 10:00 worship service.
- We have coffee (ground, whole-bean; regular, decaffeinated), tea, chocolate bars, cocoa, and olive oil.
- We accept cash, checks, and debit or credit cards.

News Update from the Christian Faith Formation team
We regret that we will not be holding the Saturday portion of this year's
CPC Staycation retreat at Bond Park on Saturday, September 29.
However, the good news is that the Friday night portion is happening!
Everyone is welcome to the Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 28
for a potluck, 6:30 p.m. for an informal worship service,
and about 7:00 p.m. for Bowdish Games (a long-standing CPC retreat fun event).

Faith Journey
This week, in Faith Journey (elementary age Sunday School): Preparing Children for Worship for 2nd graders Milestone. Parents are an important part of this class. To receive recognition after the conclusion of the class, children/parents must attend two of the three sessions.

All classes encourage newcomers at ANY time. (If you need to leave early, you may,)
Please note: we will NOT have a special intergenerational Sunday School on October 14, as previously announced, due to special circumstances. Regular classes will be held that day.

Faith and Family Class Update: 9:45 a.m. Sunday
The Faith and Family Class invites you to an ongoing discussion about the playlists
of our lives. This week we'll explore the many voices claiming to be in charge
of our lives. Give Matthew 5-7 a read for extra credit!
The class is in the Fellowship Hall, with leader/facilitator Alan Bancroft,
pastor and Youth and Families Director.

Come join us as we assemble care packages for CPC youth who are freshmen in college. This is a great opportunity to let our college students we love them and are praying for them.
Supplies Needed for College Freshmen
On Sunday, October 7, the Christian Adventurers will assemble care packages for our college freshmen. Between now and then, we invite you to help us collect supplies:
- Individual packaged snacks like granola bars, trail mix, popcorn, dried fruit, coffee/tea, etc.
- School supplies like notepads, pencils, highlights, post-its
- Travel size toiletries like toothpaste, shower gel, band-aids
- Fun items like stress balls, fidget spinners
- Notes of encouragement, support, and prayer
Look for a collection bin at church.
Youth Group Dinner Promo Opportunities
Is your church group looking for a way to serve the youth of CPC?

Security News Update
We expect the keypads to be installed some time next week (wk. of Sept. 30).
Please be sure to have your codes with you for entry at times
other than when the whole church gathers or when you can be admitted to the office.
You can still receive a code by asking Al Hardie, Jessica Cadwallader, or Medora Hix.

Donate:
Take a leaf from the Donation Tree located in the Narthex and buy/collect items we'll package together on November 3 to send to agencies in our community and beyond. Our needs include personal care/ hygiene items, relief supplies, non-perishable snacks, school supplies, and more.
All donated items should be delivered to CPC by Sunday, October 21.

Bring your family, friends and neighbors and take part in one of more than 15 separate
Be The Hands
projects including yardwork, meal preparation, friendly visits to area senior-living centers, car inspections, food collections, painting, hygiene/care/snack kit assembly, card writing and much more. We've added a number of new and interesting projects this year, so take a chance and try something you've never done before!
We have need for
NEARLY 200 VOLUNTEERS
, so no matter your age, interests or talents, there's a place for you! Additional project details will be coming soon. Registration begins on Sunday, October 14!

day kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on November 3 with prayers and song. Come and join hands together as we ask for God's blessing, strength and guidance for the day ahead.
Fellowship:
Whether you're able to work a lot, a little or not at all, join your church family for dinner and a time of sharing about the day in the CPC Fellowship Hall from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This meal is provided free of charge to all who are able to attend.

Cool Books Club
The Cool Books Club will meet Tuesday, October 2, at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Peg Giesbrecht.
Our book of the month is The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu.
Several reviewers state that the book exceeds the five star rating as these two extraordinary men of different faiths talk about ways we can all find joy even through difficult circumstances.
Let's read and discover what we can gain from their experiences. The book is available in the library and online.

Page Turners
will meet in the church parlor on Monday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. We will be discussing The Wonder by Emma Donoghue.

Not So Silent Silent Retreat, November 9 and 10

Not So Silent Silent Retreat, starting at 5:00 p.m. Nov. 9 to 4:00 p.m. Nov. 10, at Cedar Cross Retreat Center in Louisburg (
www.cedarcrossretreat.org). Cost is $75, which includes one night's lodging and 3 wonderful meals.
This year's theme is
The Many Dimensions of Gratitude. We will alternate periods of talking with times of silence. Cedar Cross is a beautiful retreat center, surrounded by trees and walking trails. Please contact Jeanne Bolick if you're interested in participating (

SAVE THE DATE: CPC Fall Blood Drive Wednesday, December 5
The fall blood drive is coming up Wednesday, December 5, 2:30 - 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We will be working with
The Blood Connection
, a blood services provider used by most Triangle hospitals.
In addition to fully staffing the drive, Blood Connections
also offers the "Faith in Action" program, where the church receives a check reflecting $10 per successful donation. Given our previous average of successful donations, this will be $350 - $500. CPC is designating these funds to our Health and Wholeness Ministry.
IMPORTANT! If you plan to participate in the blood drive, please do not donate blood elsewhere after October 10.
Hurricane Florence precipitated a crisis-level need for blood donations, but donors may give in the days and weeks following the hurricane and still be eligible for the CPC drive on December 5, if they do not give after October 10.
