Audrey Rosenstein: Angels in Adoption Honoree!
|
We are so proud and excited to recognize Audrey Rosenstein, who was selected by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute as a 2018 Angels in Adoption honoree from Nevada. Audrey was honored for her work with Foster Change, of which she serves as President, and Peggy's Attic. She is the mother of 10 adopted children and has been a foster parent in Nevada for 16 years.
It was a much deserved recognition which included Congressional recognition (photos below of Audrey in front of the office of Senator Dean Heller (left) and with Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (right)) and a celebratory gala over the course of three days in Washington D.C.!
Congrats Audrey! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the children of Nevada.
Angels in Adoption honors individuals, couples, and organizations from across the nation that have made an extraordinary contribution on behalf of children in need of families.These heroes hail from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico and represent the wide spectrum of individuals involved in the adoption and foster care process. Since the program’s inception in 1999, over 2,600 Angels have received this honor.

5 Ways to Support Children

As we approach the holiday season, it is important to consider ways to support children in care, along with those who care for them. Here are
five suggestions for ways you can help during the holiday season.

The Caregiver Courier would like to offer friendly reminders of upcoming school holidays/days off (based on the Clark County School District 9-month Calendar)
- Tuesday, Nov. 6: Election Day
- Wednesday, Nov. 7: Elementary Day Parent-Teacher Conferences(no school for elementary school students only)
- Monday, Nov. 12: Veterans Day
- Monday. Nov. 19 - Friday, Nov. 23: Thanksgiving Break

Thanks to the efforts of a group of women and children from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3,000 brand new books will find their way into the hands of youth at Child Haven.
This incredible group of women wanted to ensure children in foster care will be able to receive age-appropriate books to call their own.

Independent Living Update

The youth of Independent Living were recently given an amazing opportunity to travel to USC and Sony Studios in Los Angeles to learn more about the film industry and hear from those in the industry about what they need to do to be successful in this field! Read more about the trip

Did you know there is movie coming out that explores the process of becoming a foster and adoptive family? Read the synopsis below of the film "Instant Family", which arrives in theaters on November 16, or watch the trailer.

Foster parents are required to complete 12 hours of training in 2018. There are many trainings each month you can attend to satisfy this requirement.

respite program so foster parents can get an occasional night out!
Grace Point offers respite care from 6 - 9 p.m. on the first Friday of each month.
Canyon Ridge offers respite care from 6 - 9 p.m. on the third Friday of each month.

The greatest tool to recruit new foster parents...are current foster parents.
Clark County DFS wants to help you host a recruitment party. We will provide the information and refreshments, all we need from you is a location and a minimum of five (5) potential foster parents confirmed to attend.

Foster Care Information Sessions!
There is always a need for more foster families in Clark County. The first step is to attend one of the many information sessions offered all across Clark County.
If you know someone who has been thinking of becoming a foster resource, click on the picture to see the full schedule of information sessions and help them take that first step.

Caring for a child is one of the most important things a person can do. Caring for a child who is not your own requires a special kind of dedication. There are many children in Southern Nevada who are unable to remain in their homes. Families who open their homes and hearts to these children are committed to improving their lives and their futures. Foster Change is committed to those families.
We are proud to be the foster and adoptive family association in Southern Nevada. For just $20/year, we offer monthly community connection groups, parents' nights out, family events, educational opportunities, play dates, and free car seat and CPR/first aid training. Many of our events include free childcare and meals. We also work together to advocate for support for all foster and adoptive families in Nevada. We look forward to meeting your family!
