In an industry known for regulatory compliance and conformity in pursuit of safety and quality, it's exciting to be given the opportunity to diverge from the expected. That's one of the things I love about healthcare art. While the work we do is evidence-based, it is also creative and distinctive to each facility. It's our challenge at DAS to comply with facility and safety regulations and adhere to brand standards - while creating a cohesive yet unique art experience. It's like thinking outside the box without breaking any rules!
We couldn't succeed without getting to know the clients - and the other experts involved in every project. We are enjoying the shift from a "consultant / client" relationship to a "project team approach." Art decisions are no longer made in a vacuum - they're part of a larger conversation involving clients, architects, designers, wayfinding specialists and more. When the entire creative team collaborates, amazing things happen!
As you embark on your next project, I invite you to pull together your creative project team and collaborate. Try to do the unexpected! Challenge one another to go above and beyond as a team! DAS Participates in Center for Health Design Behavioral Health Event
On September 27th, the Center for Health Design offered a great opportunity to spend the day focusing on Behavioral Health design. Distinctive Art Source was pleased to sponsor lunch and to collaborate with more than 180 behavioral health-focused design professionals.
The workshop, titled "Strategic Design Innovations that Improve Treatment Outcomes, Safety and the Bottom Line," was created to educate design professionals on how to employ physical design strategies and methodologies that support improved care for behavioral health.

Barbara Harriman Conducts Design Charrette
with LSU Students
Since 2003, DAS has worked closely with some of the nation's most renowned healthcare architects and designers to produce meaningful and effective art programs rooted in evidence-based design. But before any of them were renowned, these innovators were (extra)ordinary students with a strong craving to pursue knowledge, learn, and master their craft.
In the spirit of honoring our time working with many great creatives in the fields of Interior Design, Architecture, Graphics and Landscape Design, DAS President, Barbara Harriman, visited her alma mater, Louisiana State University, to host an educational workshop for junior and senior level Interior Design students. A special thanks to LSU graduates Colette DeJean, Cannon Design and Samantha Mitton, Collaborative Studio, for helping facilitate the workshop.

Dayton Children's was in the midst of a campus renewal project including an 8-story patient tower and a campus expansion when the hospital conducted a study that revealed little differentiation from nearby providers and inconsistencies in their patient and brand experience. The intersection of these initiatives provided an opportunity for a physical and cultural transformation.
