Principal's Message
November 2,  2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
At Our Lady Queen of Peace, the Catholic Faith is integrated into the curriculum. A recent project illustrates this clearly. Middle school students researched the life of a saint. They learn that canonized saints started out as imperfect people just as we are. They learn about the struggles and challenges that were overcome in the search for relationship with God. The research was used to create a children's book authored and illustrated by the students. The students then shared the story with the little ones. This cross-curricular project included objectives from Religion, English Language Arts, and Social Studies. Middle school students were also building community with the students they mentor. It is one of the projects that younger students look forward to doing when they get to middle school!
As the page turns on the calendar from October, the month of the Rosary, to November, the month of Saints and Holy Souls, the OLQP community celebrated and honored Catholic tradition. A concrete representation of the Rosaries prayed by the OLQP family was made by making a blue paper chain of 855 links - each link a Rosary prayed for peace in our homes, community, and the world. The Parade of Saints is a much-anticipated annual event. Rain or shine, Blessed Mother, St. Francis, St. Therese, St. Pio, St. Caleb, St. Maximillian Kolbe, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Teresa of Calcutta, and so many more march through the campus as a culmination of study and in preparation for All Saints Day Mass. What a sight to behold! Fr. Jim Lynes told the children in his homily that they should not just dress as saints but ACT as saints. We are all called to holiness. Let us take the lessons from All Saints Day to heart and strive every day to become the people God created us to be.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

News You Can Use...
Proud of Our SAINTS Soccer and Volleyball!
The Saints' soccer and volleyball teams have wrapped up their seasons. Both teams played well and fought hard for their wins. Our 8th grade athletes will be missed next year, but the teams will be in good hands of those moving up. The team effort at OLQP is amazing. Thank you to all the parents and staff who stepped up to volunteer whether it was to drive, keep score, coach, or cheer the team on!
Coach Erin Manuel
