Friday Night Lights are big in Belton! Bleacher Creatures get us started, student trainers and Tiger Media provide valuable skills, Police Explorers report for duty, the MCJROTC post the colors, and many parent volunteers assist. Our players, cheerleaders, Magic Belles, band, and color guard are amazing!  We were proud to have Brigadier General Darren L. Werner, Commander of the 13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, join us for Military Appreciation Night on September 14. This Friday the Tigers take on Shoemaker at Tiger Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

This week marks the end of the first six weeks of school and many tremendous accomplishments by our students and staff.

At a showcase event this week, the M100 performed this year's marching show, "Bringer of War." Learning the music and marching moves for the impressive show is undoubtedly an accomplishment. Representing weeks of intense focus on the part of our students and their directors, the complex show is representative of the quality of instruction found in all of Belton ISD's programs. We are proud of the M100 and look forward to watching them compete with high schools across the state over the next several weekends.

The Belton Tigers and Coach Sam Skidmore have also demonstrated great focus and intensity as they continue in their quest to the playoffs. With a record of 2-0 in district, the team will take on Killeen Shoemaker at home this weekend for our third district game. This year brought significant changes to District 12 6A, with Temple High School and Waco High School being added to make a highly competitive nine team district. It's an exciting time for our Tigers and we look forward to building on the already successful season!

Academic achievements abound as well. It was an honor to recognize approximately 200 middle school students last week as Belton ISD Junior Scholars. Dr. Randy O'Rear, President of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, greeted the students and their parents and spoke to the importance of continuing to work for higher achievement as they prepare for post-secondary education. Dr. O'Rear's encouragement to these students to "Dream Big" was fitting as they will register and take the SAT or ACT alongside high school students this fall. We have high expectations for these top students!

October is National Principals Month, and I'd ask that you join me in celebrating our campus leaders. The success of our students and staff can be attributed to the strong leadership of our principals. They support and develop our teachers while shaping positive campus cultures that foster high expectations and achievement. We have a committed group of principals who love our kids and our staff and work hard as a team. Belton ISD's principals bring approximately 350 years of experience in education with 190 years of service to Belton ISD. Great schools have great leaders, and I am grateful for each and every one of our principals.

Thank you for your support of our schools.

Sincerely,

Susan Kincannon, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Message from the School Board President:

This week our community came together for the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Pittenger Fine Arts Center and Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation's Alumni and Friends Courtyard. The event was held to mark the substantial completion of the long overdue renovation of what has been known in recent years as the Wall Street Auditorium. Originally built in 1966 to serve Belton High School, which was located in what is now the Administration Building, the facility's original price tag was $175,696.

Just like the Board of Trustees in 1966 envisioned that this new facility would enhance Belton High School and serve the Belton community, my fellow board members and I were certain that investing in upgrades to modernize the facility would benefit the students of Belton ISD and the entire community while once again making it a great place for school and community events.

With the passage of the 2017 bond program, the community supported funding to ensure that students and their families will get to enjoy many special moments in this facility that has served Belton ISD and our community for more than fifty years. Upgrades total approximately $2.3 million and include: renovated electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems; installation of a new roof; updated interior finishes and seating; and ADA accessibility enhancements both outside and inside.

In May, the Board voted to name the auditorium the Pittenger Fine Arts Center in honor of former Board President Randy Pittenger's 24 years of service to Belton ISD. Throughout his time on the Board, Randy enthusiastically demonstrated a love of the District, the community, and its students. He regularly attended student performances and especially enjoyed elementary musical performances. He was also a champion for dance and band programs at the secondary schools. The newly renovated Pittenger Fine Arts Center is an appropriate legacy to his service to Belton ISD.

Alongside the Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation Board of Directors and many Belton ISD alumni who were the first students to use the facility fifty years ago, as well as current campus and community leaders, our two newly appointed Belton ISD Board Members helped cut the ribbon on the renovated facility.

Area 2 Trustee, Dr. Rosie Montgomery, and Area 5 Trustee, Manuel Alcozer each have their own significant history and connections to Belton ISD and the Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation.

Many in our community have been touched by the work that Rosie and Manuel have been involved with throughout our District and know that each truly want what is best for our kids. In appointing them, we as a Board know that they each share our commitment to prepare every student to excel in tomorrow's world. They bring a strong depth of knowledge and passion for our community.

In honoring both the past fifty years of memories made and looking forward to the next fifty years of special moments that will take place in the Pittenger Fine Arts Center, we are reminded of the significance of your continued support of our students and our schools.

Sincerely,

Sue M. Jordan
President, Board of Trustees
Several events were held in remembrance of 9/11 and to honor service members, police officers, firefighters and first responders. Southwest Elementary and Sparta Elementary held Freedom and Patriot Parades; Leon Heights Elementary participated in a Remembrance Ceremony in downtown Belton, and High Point Elementary paid tribute during their Remembrance Walk. Belton ISD will never forget and appreciates the service of all!
It was exciting to hold a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Pittenger Fine Arts Center! To celebrate the more than 50 year history of the venue and its significance to the community, personalized commemorative bricks sold through BEEF have been installed to create the BEEF Alumni & Friends Courtyard. The facility was officially named in honor of former Board President, Randy Pittenger, in May 2018. We look forward to having many school and community events in the beautifully upgraded facility for years to come!
