Walk into Jean Boulanger’s middle school science lab at any point during the day and you can sense her love of science. Students are working on a project, completing a lab or engaged in some other academic activity.
Mary Queen is undoubtedly lucky to have Mrs. Boulanger back and she said the feeling is mutual. “I wanted to continue to share my love of science with students,” Mrs. Boulanger said. “Mary Queen’s nurturing faith-centered environment makes it a great place to teach. It truly is a ‘community,’ not just a school.”
Mrs. Boulanger earned an MD degree from the University of Toronto and then worked in science labs and taught science at the Community College level before joining the Mary Queen faculty in 2001. After two years away, she returned this fall as the middle school science teacher. “I look forward to teaching for the 16
th
year at Mary Queen,” she said.
Mrs. Boulanger is a certified catechist and has a Rank 1 Teaching Certificate for grades 5-9 in Science. She said she is particularly excited for hands-on activities this year that will allow middle school students to explore the STEM world (science, technology, engineering and math).
“Students will continue to learn core ideas and develop skills enriched by hands-on learning in our wonderful science lab,” Mrs. Boulanger said. “Science is always changing, so I try to keep the content fresh. New technologies provide exciting ways to engage the students.”
