TABC at AIPAC
This past Sunday through Tuesday, nine of TABC's Israel Advocacy Club leaders and members participated in the Schusterman AIPAC High School Summit in Alexandria, Virginia.  Led by faculty advisor, Dr. Elliot Prager, this is the largest delegation that TABC has ever sent to this conference.  This three-day intensive seminar included a wide variety of workshops centered around the strategic US-Israel relationship and how high school and college students can make a difference in the support of Israel in both the politicial and media arenas.  This year's participants included: Ezra Seplowitz, Aharon Weiden, Eli Rifkind, Seth Maza, Rafi Press, Boaz Simantov, Joseph Segal, Raanan Kilimnick and Ezzie Kilimnick. TABC Responds to
Pittsburgh Masacre
The entire school gathered together on Monday morning for a short program to acknowledge the devastating tragedy and loss of life resulting from the shooting in Pittsburgh last Shabbat.  Rabbi Yablok set the tone for the program, emphasizing the importance of Jews coming together during times of struggle and reminding the student body that they can always turn to their teachers, rebbeim, and guidance counselors for support. Next, Mr. Strassman provided the students with a sense for what Squirrel Hill is truly all about, based upon the experiences of his family members who currently reside there. Through this perspective and chizuk, the students felt a deeper connection with the community. Afterward, Rabbi Adler offered guidance to the students from a hashkafic approach to prepare for the broader discussions and questions they will have in the aftermath of this tragic event. A particularly meaningful aspect of the assembly was the inclusion of Torah study in the process of reflection, as a representative from each grade learned one Mishna b'kol-ram in the merit of the Jews who died al kiddush Hashem. Finally, the Kehila stood in silence for Rabbi Adler's solemn Keil-Maleh Rachamim.

Rabbi Reichman Visits Pittsburgh in the Wake of Shabbat Tragedy
This week, TABC rebbe Rabbi Zev Reichman travelled with Rabbi Akiva Block to Pittsburgh to give kavod acharon to some of the kedoshim. He shared some profound reflections with us which we encourage you to click here and read.
An Important Security Message from Teach NJS
After the tragic massacre in Pittsburgh this past weekend, security is now more important than ever for our schools. For too long, our schools have not received adequate funding to protect our children - in fact, the inequity between public and nonpublic schools is staggering. The legislature has the opportunity to begin to right this wrong - our representatives in Trenton can double security funding for our schools by passing supplemental appropriations bills S.3080 and A.4597.

For more information on the urgency of supplemental security funding in New Jersey, please read our coverage in Bloomberg.

We need you to take the following steps:

1) Call Senate President Sweeney at (856) 251-9801 and Assembly Speaker Coughlin at (732) 855-7441.
2) Send this message to three friends.

We need your help to get the word out about this important opportunity.

A suggested script for the call can be found here, please take a minute today to call.
Determining the Acidity and
Alkalinity in the World Around Us
Students in Mrs. Goldenberg's biology class examined several unknown samples to determine the pH levels of various common household agents. An incredible array of colors were examined from the interaction of natural plant based pigments (anthocyanins) in red cabbage juice with various acids and bases, many of which are in the students daily diets. Students were then tasked with identifying approximate hydrogen ion concentrations and pH based on the color change resulting from the chemical reaction. It was an eye opening and colorful day in the lab!
Torah L'Ma'aseh in
Engineering Class
As we put the finishing touches on our brand new STEM Makerspace and Fabrication Lab, as well as a redesigned and expanded Storm Cafe, our students are excitedly preparing to give these spaces their personal touch. This week, Mr. Tiefenbrunn's 9th grade Engineering students had a special shiur in hilchot mezuzah from Rabbi Jachter, during which they learned the "top 10" halachot every Jew should know about mezuzah. This prepared them to use their skills in 3D design that they learned earlier this year, as they now work to create 3D-printed mezuzah cases for the doors in our new spaces. We are so excited to define these spaces from day one by both Torah values and STEM innovation!

Touching Response from
Survivor Rosa Sirota
Recently, students in Mrs. Cary Reichardt's Holocaust Studies class were privileged to hear a talk by Mrs. Rosa Sirota, a Holocaust survivor and noted educator in Bergen County. You can read about it here. After the meaningful visit the students wrote to Mrs. Sirota, reflecting on the impact her story and message had on them. Below is Mrs. Sirota's response.

Dear Cary,

Thank you for dropping off the letters from your students.  Please read my reply to your class.

Dear students from Mrs. Reichardt's class,

Thank you for your beautiful letters regarding my talk to your class on Oct. 4.  I was very moved and impressed by the way you expressed yourselves.  You truly understood that tragic period in our history, and I am so glad that many of you shared it with your family.

As I mentioned, it's not easy for me to relive my experiences during that time, but you are my witnesses and can stand up if you ever hear someone denying that the Holocaust really happened.  Most of the survivors will not be around much longer, and hard as it is to talk about it, it is important to share these stories with young people who are our future leaders and whose decisions will affect the future.

Eli, thank you for saying "I do not see you as a victim.  I see you as a victor"

Several of my relatives and friends have also read your letters and were also most impressed of how perceptive you all are and how well you write.

Best wishes for a healthy and successful future.

Rosa Sirota

May our students carry on Mrs. Sirota's message for years to come.

Sophomore Night Out
Wednesday night was an exciting night for 62 sophomores. After school they enjoyed a dinner of pizza and fries and then loaded the buses to the Barclay Center to watch the Brooklyn Nets play the Detroit Pistons.

After picking up their free hoodies at the center, the students and chaperones headed to their seats to watch a very exciting game. The Nets gave up their early lead and trailed for most of the second half before scoring a 3 point shot which tied the game and sent it to overtime!!  The energy in the stadium was palpable!!! The Nets ending up beating the Pistons  120-119 in overtime. What a fun night we had!!

Mr. Tiefenbrunn Performs at Kumzitz for Israel
in Times Square
TABC's STEM Coordinator and Music Theory teacher Aryeh Tiefenbrunn helped to bring Jewish pride and love of Israel to the heart of New York City last Sunday. The Yeshiva University Israel Club hosts an annual Kumzitz for Israel in Times Square, where YU students and Jews from all around New York come together to show solidarity with Israel and sing Jewish songs for the whole city to hear. The kumzitz, led by YU student Tani Polansky and attended by hundreds of people, was a meaningful experience for those in attendance as they sang, danced, and poured their hearts out. This year's event was dedicated in memory of Ari Fuld HY"D.
Alumni Pride
Facing an Eruvin test at RIETS (YU Semicha program) Rabbi Jachter took his old talmid (and current colleague) Rav Ezra Stone '11 out to Teaneck Road to help Rav Stone prepare for his Semicha exam.  "There is nothing like showing an actual eruv to one learning the topic and Rabbi Jachter really helped me prepare for the bechina.  He showed me  most of the basic topics in vivo and now I am ready to ace this test!" said Rav Stone!  In the picture Rav Jachter and Rav Stone view an actual Lechi located on Teaneck Road only one block from TABC.
Mr P. is in Israel visiting our alumni and leading his annual alumni shabbaton in Chevron for Parshat Chayei Sarah.
