"Fountain Hills Middle School empowers students to learn, to care, and to succeed."
Principal's Message                                   November 2, 2018

Wow! How can it possibly be November already? Recently I shared a message with the FHMS Staff and I'd like to share part of that message with all of you:

I want to take a moment to remind you all how grateful I am to work with such an amazing group of people. As educators, we rarely receive acknowledgement for all the great things we are doing for our students...and while I cannot change that by myself, I can share with you the great things you and your peers are doing for kids each day here at FHMS.

Daily, I see staff diligently planning, grading, completing paperwork, filing, and meeting with students for extra help, clubs, and sports. I see staff coming in well before the school day starts and staying far after the students have gone home. I see staff that take their supervision duties seriously and ensure that our students are safe and cared for. I see staff providing food to hungry students, a shoulder to cry on for a student having a bad day, and a staff that strives every day to provide our students with engaging lessons, meaningful feedback, and continued encouragement for those who are struggling.

I also see a staff that has demonstrated great patience with their third principal in 3 years. You have adapted to the ever changing expectations and embraced the initiatives that inevitably came with the hiring of a new principal. Your commitment to your students, to your profession, and to FHMS has not gone unnoticed.

I appreciate how flexible you have been. I appreciate your continued guidance as I grow into this role and recognize that the year is far from perfect, but despite that you all come to work with great hope for your students and passion for your profession.

I share this message with the hope that the FHMS community continue to take time to recognize the great things the staff is doing for our students. Just this week, I had a teacher arrange for a student to receive dental work pro bono. I have had numerous teacher give up their prep hour to work with students that needed some extra support. I have witnessed classified staff members stay late with students that missed the bus and go out of their way to help students complete required paperwork.

Finally, I hope we all take the time to recognize the great things our students are doing each and every day. Since I have started at FHMS, I have witnessed students include new students in their "lunch group." I have seen students offer to help a struggling peer complete an assignment or deal with a difficult situation. I have seen students advocate for one and other and I have witnessed first hand the hard work and commitment of the Falcon Leaders as they organized and hosted one of the most amazing dances I have been part of.

I ask that we all take time to share a positive message with a staff member and/or a student in the coming months. Let's make FHMS a place where we recognize greatness while ensuing we are always striving to improve. Thank you for your time, commitment to our students, and continued support. Have a great weekend!
