Tim Franquist, the Chief of the Air Quality Division at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, said at a Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease (CLRD) meeting that Arizona will maintain the Obama-era vehicle emission standards, not revise them to meet the Trump Administration's repeal to weaken the standards.
Arizona needs the cleaner emissions to meet its EPA standards on both particulates and ozone. By Labor day, there were over 47 days when ozone exceeded the 24-hour EPA health-based standard in Maricopa County due to the excessive heat this past summer.
