REVIVE, REFRESH, RENEW, RELAX,
AND REBOOT IN 2020!

Here you go! A fresh start! A new year! 365 days to make your health goals a reality. We always start off with the best intentions and then life gets in our way. Too busy to be healthy? Think again. Make this year about finding the time for you. Refreshing means letting go of the past and tweaking your lifestyle to work in your favor.
REVIVE:  Start your day off right out of bed with a good hydrating glass of something! Remember to make sure it is non-carbonated, decaffeinated and sugar free. Water, crystal light, decaf coffee or tea, Powerade zero, Gatorade zero. Your body doesn’t only want it- it NEEDS it. 2 Liters a day is your goal! Challenge yourself to stay hydrated, evenly spaced throughout your day. Set alarms on your phone to remind you to drink. Drinking is the first line of defense against stubborn old habits returning and weight regain .

REFRESH:   Literally! Purge that refrigerator of anything that is outdated. (Check those spices- they are always neglected). Remove items that do not meet the 5% rule (% of total fat and, also % of total carbs should each be 5% or less). Take mental inventory of your fridge- are there fresh vegetables in there? Do you see color when you open it? If it isn’t in there, you can’t use it! I love opening my fridge and seeing fresh cauliflower, broccoli, oranges and eggplant. I know I have planned a good eating week for me and my family.

RENEW:   You have a clean slate. A chance to start off in the right direction. Take a few minutes to look at your daily routine and see where you can get in a little more sleep and some more activity. Make time for fun and play in your day. Your day should be planned before you get out of bed. Plan what you will have for your meals. Do not skip meals. Fuel your body on a schedule. Meals should be evenly spaced throughout the day ~5-6 hours each. Leave no room for straying from your main goal of eating and living healthy. When we don’t have a plan- we may not make the smartest choices. Know your route for that day. If temptation is on it- steer the other way and take a different route. Know there are healthy options almost everywhere for you.

RELAX:  Learn to manage stress in your life.  Exercise, healthy eating, relaxation, and good coping skills will empower you. Try something new. Meditation, breathing exercises or just powering off your electronics and social media at a certain time each day will help you relax. You owe it to yourself to live your best life- live a life free of emotional strain and tension.

REBOOT:   It’s January. It is Reboot time. Restart your life and make it work better for you than last year. It will become your new normal. Sleep, activity, healthy choices and owning your health will make you feel energetic and charged! It will help you stay focused and on plan. You can do it. There is no time like now to start!
