Selfies and Self Esteem
We used to worry about how photoshopped images of models in magazines affect girls' self-esteem. That worry seems almost quaint now thanks to apps like Instagram and Snapchat that let any girl moonlight as an amateur model, using filters and apps to "perfect" her image for an audience of her peers.

This week, childmind.org examines the damage an obsession with selfies can do, as scrolling through these idealized images on social media has become a major way young women socialize - and compare themselves with others. Hear from experts about how selfies can exacerbate adolescent insecurity, anxiety and depression, and what parents can do to help.
