DRAGON TALES
SEPTEMBER 27, 2018

Dear St. George Families,
What is a virtue? A virtue is a firm disposition to do good. It allows the person not only to perform good acts, but to give the best of himself/herself. He/She pursues the good and chooses it in concrete actions.
This year our school is beginning a new program called Virtues in Practice. Virtues in Practice is a program for children in grades pre-kindergarten through eight grade that will help our students grow closer to Jesus by imitating His life and virtues. It is set up in such a way that the whole school studies the same virtue each month, to provide a whole-school (and at home, whole-family) focus. The program covers 27 virtues over a three-year cycle, with 81 saints held up as models of the virtues.
Each month we will focus on a particular virtue and learn about Saints who demonstrated these virtues. For example in October we will focus on the virtue of Reverence. We will use morning assembly and school liturgy as the place to learn and practice the virtue each month. Our Religion teachers will also integrate the virtue of the month into their class instruction. Families will be an important part in the success of this program. We will encourage each family to participate in the suggested activities at home to practice the virtue of the month. This will be communicated through Religion classes and Dragon Tales. All the virtues we practice during the year will be assisting us to grow in our faith.
God bless,
Jack Nelson
